Rediscovered my old source of scrapping.

I used to scrap out cars as well as appliances and so on. I forgot about the cars until attending an auction last Thursday. Never gave it any thought that with scrap prices so low scrap cars would also be low and are. I bought a rust free running driving 94 S-10 Blazer 4 x 4 with 99K miles on it for $105. It's a bit rough and needs tires and a little body work but it is drivable and has a clear title. Everyone of the 36 other cars at the auction sold for the same price each. Most went to wrecking yards. One was an 81 Oldsmobile 98 2 door. I am equipped to store maybe four cars but can only haul one at a time so I only bought one. I already have the Vortec V-6 sold out of the Blazer for $250 bucks. Nowadays an engine with under 100K on it is still considered new. Part it out and sell the rest for scrap. I already have my investment back with a nice profit and lots left to sell off it. Try buying cars to part out. There are always car auctions out there. There is always a need for cheap parts and pieces too. Plus it's better than having to muscle refrigerator's on and off my trailer. I just winched it up and drove it off. The battery was dead when I bought it.

If it could pass inspection, that S10 would sell for about $4,500 around here !

Not here in Mesa az. It's pretty much considered junk and worthless except to a few select south of the border buyers. Then it might bring $500 maybe even $700 in as is condition. I sell off the parts. Make more money that way then there is the body left to sell for shred. Everything here like the Blazer besides vehicles transplanted from climates where cars rust is considered wrecking yard bound. Had I not bought it the Blazer would by now be in the junk yard parted out. I know people who dismantle and ship engines and non rusty car body parts and pieces by the container full back east for resale. The City of Mesa where I worked sells it's old worn out gutted garbage truck bodies to back east buyers. Not big money in it because the metal is so contaminated they are not worth anything to a scrap yard but to another city in need of one it's worth $250 bucks. Not $2500 but $250. They load it on a flat bed and off it goes to it's new home. .

I part out cars all the time. I stick with Audi's, VW's, BMW's, Mercedes Benz, Volvos, Saabs, Chevy trucks. I have 2 cars on property right now that I'm parting out. 93 vw golf paid $250 for it. (ONLY reason I paid that much is I needed the tranny for my wifes car. It was cheaper for the whole car than just a tranny.....) and a 98 Audi A8 Quattro. If I could haul it I could have it. It has a bad transmission. Sold the engine for $300, transfer case sold for $150, plus I'm keeping parts for our stash...... were v-dubbers......
