Powerful politicos and/or their buddies must have family businesses that run hazardous waste businesses...
Sounds to me like the WI DNR are doing their job and enforcing WI laws regarding electronic waste disposal. Hopefully the other law enforcement depts are doing the same.

I'll bet if the WI DNR showed up at AGWs or Mudluckys door each would be able to provide the proper paperwork and the DNR would be on their way.

Jimicrk and armygreywolf, I respect both of you but I have to disagree with you about granting governments at all scales increasing police and judicial powers that can use arbitrary whims of how grievous this crime is vs. the next one. I respect armygreywolf's high environmental consciousness and feel bad that he couldn't use his nearby river for recreational purposes while he was growing up. But I've seen prosectorial "discretion" up close, not about scraping or recycling, but basically someone trying to break into a state political system and its not pretty when executive power has few checks and balances. Let me remind of the scenario and situation that agw described:

The state does periodically check the volumes of approved DNR drop off sites. When they find that the receiving load is say...double the usual, they will ask the people in charge to start taking plates of vehicles. Then they randomly pick the address of various registered vehicles and the DNR will use binoculars to check the property. All it will take is a tv or two that they can see...or an open garage door and you will find yourself with a $15,000 dollar dumping fine per television that they caught you with. We all hear the horror stories but I've seen what happens when guys get caught, it's literal game over, they lose their house, their entire livelihood and the state is allowed to garnish your paychecks, retirement accounts and withhold tax returns to repay fines.
We're not talking about the state division of criminal investigation staking out a child porn or human trafficking ring or even guys gathering tvs, scrapping them out, and then dumping them in the river but guys abusing the system of free drop off. Great, catch them and give them a good fine and I'll bet they're knock it off (I know I sure would) but to ruin their lives for trying to beat the system so some downstream recycling business loses a tiny fraction of their revenue seems extremely harsh to me. Now, if you want to live in such a jurisdiction where a governmental agency has that much power, go for it. I wouldn't be living there any there soon. Give them that much police power for this and where does it stop...?? Might want to read Orwell's 1984 again.

I'm done with crts, both in my little bit of hobby scrapping as well as discussing them on this forum. Just my 2 cents...

For the Avoirdupois set, this is less than a quarter-pound of copper and about a half-pound of Ali. That's probably a payout of a dollar, per the pricing I see on the forum. Even if you can unload them for free, that's not a great return.

Unreal. Are we expecting a major price dip on scrap LCD's in the coming weeks?
