So today I decided of start taking TVs and monitors free of charge if they dropped them off at my house or were close enough where I didn't have to go very far. If they want me to pick them up I can charge a fee depending on distance. I was wondering what everyone's opinion on TVs were

What are you going to do with the CRT's and plastic after you have removed the copper and circuit boards?

Where do you live? I'll be there shortly. By the way, you won't be able to get rid of me. I'll be there multiple times a day with FTLs every time.

I guess it all depends on how many you have to handle. I'm out of the crt world now but still will do flat screens but my numbers are very small. It mostly depends on the volume...

Figure out your state laws first. Then how to get rid of them according to state law. Also where would this free drop off be? I assume not at your house... Believe it or not in AZ you can still throw away a CRT TV or Monitor, I would donate them to Goodwill after removing the good stuff, but now they wont take CRT's. I do not want to throw them away so I just let them be when I find them. There is a place that will buy intact CRT monitors and TV's with power cords attached for $.10 a pound but I have not gone there yet as I am worried they will just be dumping the tubes in the trash!

I do take TV's, but it has taken me a while to figure out all my local details and where to move with everything. In all honesty they do not make much, takes time to get out what i'm looking for, takes gas to make sure the CRT and plastics are properly disposed of. I do it more for what else I might get with the TV's. If I can help someone out, make sure the item is properly disposed of instead of in a ditch somewhere, and most importantly get some other items that may be more valuable. This has helped connect with a few businesses that had old TV's to dispose of, and once I told them I take anything electronic, I now get all their computers and extra boards with the TV's. The businesses share it with their employees that they can dispose of their TV's at work so my pick up becomes a benefit for them. I always like to see what comes "With" the TV's.

If a place around me paid for them, I would quit my day job and absolutely haunt that buyers parking lot.

I would clear the city streets by night like a pickup driving superhero rounding up rogue TVs. Then evict the bugs out of the thrown over the hill, dumped sets out in the country during the days...

I do agree however, I'd be hesitant of what they are doing with them or how they are processing/disposing of them.

TVs. They are our weekly headache. We get TVs 30, 40, 50 at a time. Key is we charge. A lot. We also have to pay to get rid of the tubes. Can't be land filled, and I'm too conscientious to land fill them anyway.

We take TVs, but minimum charge is $25 each. More for the larger ones. And, they have to be delivered to us. We won't pay shipping to receive them. The only thing that makes the TVs profitable is the charge. The guts of them won't pay for disposal of the tubes.

I said this on many similar threads. I would run away from that as fast as possible. If you insist on going through with this make sure you let everyone know that they cannot already be scrapped and must have the power cords still attached. The last thing you need is to come home and find 100 scrapped tvs and monitors piled up in your front yard.

Once I have enough of the CRT tubes I'll find a recycler for them. I don't break the glass on the tubes and I store them safely.

I live in Wisconsin and would be glad to have loads of TVs to scrap out.

Just totally forgot about this but the city I live in has a free once a year state funded TV recycling thing in town. So as for getting rid of them it will be a piece of cake

I would find a recycler before you start and even though your city has an event once a year I'll bet they want items that have not been scrapped.

I'm not trying to be a wet blanket but there are so many threads here about crt's and even more horror stories about them.

You should use the SMF search feature and read all of the crt threads and you'll see what I talking about.
