The wife and I have celebrated every five years of our marriage with a special vacation. Last year was our 15th, but with the birth of a grandchild and not being able to decide on a destination, we did not do a good one. This year, Debs threw down the gauntlet and said we are going to do something special.
We talked about an Alaskan cruise, but we did not want to pay that much. We talked about just landing in the Anchorage area and driving around and puddle jumping on small aircraft, but we worried about the remoteness and lack of interesting things to do, so....
We decided to fly to San Francisco and spend a day or two in that area. We are going to get a car and drive to Yosemite and see that area for a day or so, then head north to Carson City/Tahoe area and up to Reno and spend a day or so in that area. We will then travel up to Crater Lake and spend two nights there in a little B&B Hotel we stayed at and enjoyed in '10. The next day we take off and drive over to the coast and up to Portland to catch a plane back home.
For me, a road trip is the best. You can tool along and stop anywhere that catches your eye or heart. We are really looking forward to this trip and if anyone knows of anything along our way that you have really enjoyed and think we should consider, please feel free to add a POI for us to research. It is a few months out and I will post updates and pictures once we get back as I don't really feel comfortable posting a a week away from the house (we do have a monitored security system to help with our peace of mind)
