This is a funny subject. At first I was also removing the boards on every hard drive when I first started doing this, then I figured it out that it wasn't all that cost affective. Now, since I have gotten clients that want them destroyed, I have been taking the boards back off and saving them. I'll now save up a paper case box full of them and bring them in. Some yards are picky about crushed or destroyed hard drives without boards, but I take my chances. The hard drive scrap is not cost affective to ship out but the boards are.
