Nickel a pound must have gotten them fired up or maybe it was spring weather??

I look at the craigslist "free" listings a couple of times of days and haven't seen these guys before in the couple of years I've been doing it, so I don't know the backstory. Light steel scrap in Sioux Falls (the closest place for these guys to sell steel scrap) got up to $100 a ton (a nickel a pound) in March but they told me they expected it to fall in April--I took in one of my mini loads last Thurs. and got 4.75 cents a pound ($95 a ton). More power to them if they want to do this but yanking steel out from under old grass & dead veg, often decades worth, is no easy day. Patriot 76, you out there, thoughts on their ad...?

I would like to know how successful they are with the angle of free clean up. Most of my customers have been saving equipment to reuse parts, sentimental reasons, or to make money when they scrap it. If a customer has at least a 36 ft. trailer full of scrap, I share the profits. If these guys are successful, I will have to change my business plan and grammar.

I have picked up some jobs that the owners do not want a split. These are usually barn fires or fields they want to farm now that the landscape is getting drier. As far as cleaning steel from grass, if they have a skidsteer and rake (someday I will repost my equipment) it is not to bad. The other advantage of the rake, it is used to clean game trails during the slow times. Please keep me posted as to their listings.
Give back more to this world than we take.

mikeinreco- I'm not really paying attention to them, just thought others might find it interesting from a low populated state, especially P76, although these guys and him aren't going to cross paths given that P76 is 100 miles away from them. My cousin's husband was a South Dakota small town, farmland "junker" during the warm months and trapped muskrats and mink during the cold ones. They had at least 4 kids. Even in a really cheap small town in the 1970s & 80s, it was a tough life. He died early.
