    Thinking about the future

So I think I read an old thread about the future of scrapping, so if this is redundant I apologize in advance. That being said, I was thinking about the future of scrapping walking through home depot the other day. Walk though any Home Depot/Lowes appliance section and you see these really fancy refrigerators with the touch screen that shows you what's in it and when to buy more food. It's basically a computer that happens to have a fridge inside. The new washer and dryer combos are similar in that they talk to you and tell you when its ready. That's just a small example of the technology going into traditionally simple appliances. My point is, if and when people start throwing these things to the curb, you're not just gonna come by and haul it straight to the yard, you're gonna need to take the e-scrap out first or you'll be losing money. I see this hobby/industry going very much toward e-waste scrapping. What do you guys think? Comments, rants, concerns, lets hear it.

The boards are probably going to have little to no value... the newer stuff is not nearly as rich in precious metal content.

I wouldnt waist the time pulling ewaste from appliances unless there were hard drives or ram in them. Dont see that happening.
Imagine your dryer of fridge getting hacked HA!

Well, why couldn't that happen? These touch screen fridges are programmable, they take a pic of the inside and tell you when you need to buy more of whatever is in there. It's only going to get more tech'ed out from here.

The heart and soul of scrapping has always been iron and steel. I have always respected and tried to learn from those in ewaste. My guess is that ewaste in the future will be dependent on the boards from robots that are scrapping iron and steel. Shortly after that they will have robots that scrap other robots and all of the ewaste. That leaves mankind only one option - adult beverages. This is where Sirscrapalot and his traveling cooler will make his fortune.

So much is made of plastic these days in our throw away society. I don't go curb shopping but I'm always looking while travelling on trash days. I hardly ever see much worthwhile. I have been lucky a few times but it mostly seems like a waste of time and effort.
