So I've been picking up side jobs as Spring time allows us to get those jobs done we dreaded doing in Winter. One of the jobs I picked up was clearing out a wooded lot for an elderly woman. She just had her 85th birthday and she is one hell of a soul. Everyday I stop work we sit and visit and after 85 years on this earth she never has a dull story and they never repeat.
As I was working around her shed I noticed a large metal appliance with a sizeable motor. It was too hard to identify, the bushes and vines had claimed it. I decided to pull it out at the end of the day. It turned out to be an old Westinghouse dishwasher. As I pulled back more of the growth I found a lawn tractor. The mower is a Grass Cat - a breif attempt (1970-1974) by Articat in the lawn game.
So I brought it up very lightly to her hinting I would be more than glad to haul it out of there and to my surprise she gave me the okay. It was her late husband's and I wasn't sure if there was some sentimental attachment but I had to ask. Along with the two itwms I found out by the shed she gave me two old peinters, two satellite dishes, a few metal fence stakes, 20 pieces of Al siding, and free range to anything in her shed. She also has some things in her basement that she has not specified that we will be going through in the next week.
It never hurts to ask when done politely. Something which I have learned on this forum. Approach and timing are always key.
If anyone has any information on the Grass Cat or any ideas other than scrap I'm all ears. I did some digging on mower and farm forums but I didn't get much more from them than I did from Google. It's in rough shape and I know just because it is old doesn't mean it's worth anything more than scrap value. I also don't have enough skills for a restoration or any fabrication.
Thanks for checking out my mini score ladies and gents! I need to go back through threads to figure out how to post pictures as I do have some of the mower.
