    it served me well...

Said good bye to an old garage reliable tonight by scrapping out our first snowblower that served us well for 18 years before it died at the end of the 2015/2016 season. We bought a new Husquvara this season so the old Yard Master was just idle metal sitting around. I'll try selling the wheels and maybe the plastic auger at our upcoming rummage sale, the wheels should go quick, there's a good amount of life left in them, might try the light on ebay. I'll take apart the engine at a later date, mostly cast aluminum so no need throwing that in the steel shred pile. The rest will go to steel place a few miles down the road to return again as steel in somebody's new washer or some other consumer product. And the metal cycle starts again!

I posted this last night to my FB page. My brother was the only one who acknowledged it. I suspect most of my FB friends (many from high school days) think this is really weird. I'm sure most would just throw the old machine out and hope the trash guy would take it or post a craigslist ad for someone to pick up. Nothing wrong with the last option although they miss the opportunity to gain knowledge about a process few have dealt with, its just an abstraction to them. I guess its their loss...

For my type of scrapping, such a project is approached for the education and entertainment. As a principal I worked with a special education teacher of behavioral challenged students. If their were not any crises for the week, on Fridays he allowed them to break appliances down. Great idea and lead me into scrapping. After I break one down, the rest of the motors are sold as aluminum breakage.
Give back more to this world than we take.

    Hi Patriot and Rog,

All of a sudden, I'm back to cleaning up farmyards and the E-scrap is on hold. I did find a vehicle to dump some of my unwanted electronics into. Looks like you have room in your garage now, DakotaRog. I should have saved those CRT Monitors for you. We were just at the casino this past weekend and they put us up at the Holiday Inn in your hometown. Enjoyed the Christmaslike weather you gave us. Did I say "Enjoyed"? I meant "Didn't enjoy".

Was it just the engine that was bad? I might have looked into repowering it with a HF engine.

Do take the time to see if there is a market for parts for your model. One or two sale will out produce the rest of the scrap. Let us know how it goes. 73, Mike

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked
