    Satallite ends circuit boards

I am finally getting around to breaking down the satallite receiver circuit boards. This is probably a dumb question but. In one of the satallite ends, there was a piece of gold metal behind one of the circuit boards. This was gold through and through. Could there be a chance this piece of metal could be a low carat gold? I would think it would be too expensive to use in mass production satallites. I figured SMF would be a good place to start getting answers.
