    All time grand totals

Sorry if this has been started in a previous thread, I know someone did a yearly total thread not too long ago, but I wanted to do an all time weight/cash breakdown by material. Since I only started scrapping in 2011 and have saved every receipt from every yard, this was easy to break down in an excel sheet. To keep things simple I combined all categories of a material into 1 (e.g. dirty, sheet, cans, cast aluminum is all one). Figured this would be a fun thread for some of the veterans to compare their totals, although I'm not sure everyone saves their receipts. So here it is for my part time in the last 6 years...

Iron-12885 lbs, $1219.04= 9.5 cents average over 6 years (although all averages are not true because the rate at which i sold material was never regular)
Lead acid batteries- 553lbs, $218.77, 39.6 cents average

Aluminum-444 lbs, $172.59, copper, 84 lbs, $85.28, electric motors, 214lbs, $23.66, stainless steel 70 lbs, $21.63, brass 24lbs, $19.22, circuit boards 12 lbs, $0.12 (waste of time) lithium ion batteries, 26lbs, $3. (before I knew about ewasted) So not much of a grand total but there it is. There are plenty of ebay and craigslist profits I cant keep track of but over the years a fair estimate for those combined I think would be another $400. Doesn't seem like much when you add it all up but as scrappers we know there's many more reasons than the money.

i dont think this is a wise thing to openly mention.

esp when many people already think scrap metal is easy money and all u need to do is just load up the scrap & drop it off at the yard & u get paid good money.
and then theres the taxman/IRS etc who will be VERY interested to find out exactly how much u make off scrap metal & how much he believes u owe him

Scrapping is to much work for the average person. If the OP had figured the number of hours invested, the fuel, and cost of tools invested in this "hobby" I bet the average person would not work for less than minimum wage. Considering this is the total of five years part time work, I think most individuals would be discouraged. As far as the tax man, if you are honest you have nothing to worry about. Now it is time to go out and play, I know I have something around here that I need to break.
Give back more to this world than we take.
