    Scrapped something different today.

I was bored, and doing a little driving around looking for the infamous dump spots. Well, I found one that didn't have much, but it had a mattress. Needless to say, I cut it open with my pocket knife and took the 30 lb springy frame out and left the foam/fabric where it fell.

Yes, I was so bored I actually scrapped a mattress.

Anyone else ever do anything fun like that? Tear something apart that most people, scrappers included, wouldn't even think twice about?

Did something similar with an old couch that was given to a guy that works for me....He brought it out and said that it had an all metal frame...It had been a frustrating day already so we grabbed some knives and a couple hammers and went to work...Quite a bit of metal in that old couch and got quite a bit of frustration out on top of everything.

Yes those sure are good for releasing frustration. Recliners too. Mostly wood and fabrics, but can sure do a number to it with a hammer

I tore apart a recliner once too. It was really heavy and added 50 lbs to my steel pile. I have also posted this before, but I will scrap mattresses as long as I have latex gloves and it goes into the fire pit first....... I have a few germaphobic quirks and that is one of them. They are all over the place and add up fast, plus my yard takes them w/o complaint.

I burned a few "stuffed" chairs for the metal a few months ago. Burned upholstery is probably toxic also. oh well.

I skinned a couple of twin sized ones once cuz the trash man wouldn't take them full size and then threw the steel in the pile.

Same here. Set it in the drive & light it up. Run a magnet to pick up the staples & whatnot.

My friend had a bon fire party and someone brought an old couch that had a pull out bed.
I got the metal after everything was burnt off it, had to be close if not more than 100 pounds.

The fire will kill pretty much anything icky that may have been attatched...assorted bodily fluids of strangers, lice, bedbugs, whatever else.

Furniture doesn't stay intact long enough to spread anything. Of course this might be a problem for those who live in or near a town. I do not.

Lol back in Malaysia we had a mattress that wasn't slept in for years, it had acquired unknown amounts of water damage and bat guano. We took it out and torched it, the thing went up in flames in like 30 seconds. I'm not sure how much they got for scrapping it, but I remember that it left behind a pretty large frame.

One of the top ten reasons for discarding a mattress, I think.

That's precisely why so many have died smoking in bed. I had no idea they went up like that either, but after having seen one flare up, i know now yep ; ) It's about like lit gasoline
