Yes, donate it because you want to help someone out. I just donated a computer system to a single mom of 2 young kids that had a broken laptop and no means to get it fixed or replaced. It wasn't about how much I could have gotten for the "above scrap price" for the system, it was only the fact that I could help out, and to prove it, I have no legal record that it was even done other than her word, it is on my linkedin page.
So if the stuff is really still useable and YOU want to help someone less fortunate, then donate it to someone directly, not a large corp that is still making a larger profit on it even though they are listed as a not-for-profit, they are still making large amounts of money.
