520's Scrap Finds - Page 3

So I searched the forum and didn't find a good enough answer to the question I am looking for. I know the question has probably been answered but this is my thread so sue me!

Can boards that are green on both sides but have brown fiber in the middle still be considered mid-grade/peripheral? Or does it need to be green fiber? BTW i'll be shipping to ewasted.

Honestly I didn't pay attention to the boards I was pulling out of my recent loads of electronics so I can't say for sure what they came out of.

But I think I got these boards from DVD players or maybe DVD VHS combo's. Based on the chips I think they should be peripheral boards but i am just not 100% because of the brown fiber.

The board in the last picture assuming that green/green with brown fiber qualify as mid/peripheral. Should I remove the large transformer and capacitor to get mid/peripheral?

I am asking you guys because I won't be ready to ship a pallet/gaylord for a little while yet but I want to keep my boards sorted in the meantime.

Ok here is the final result of those first 4 truck loads of vhs dvd sat receivers stereos etc. Really it was only 3 truck loads that I broke down because there was a lot I hauled in without breaking down.

I already showed the wire, transformers, lead acid bat ect earlier on this thread.

Pic #1 is mixed cooper that needs to be cleaned, transformers, copper content, copper, IC chips and aluminum heat sinks that need to be cleaned. This is all from depopulating the low grade boards.

Pic #2 is a 40 gallon can 3/4 full of mid grade boards

Pic #3 are undecided boards. Not sure if green/green with brown fiber in the center can be mid grade/peripheral

Maybe, if you have the time, post the number of hours of work and the total payout. Or the value of each separate component and time? (this is where one learns how to make money) Averages are ok. Please and thank you

The problem is that I am holding onto quite a bit of the scrap for a while and I don't have a scale to give you guys weights.

But the breakdown of the 3 truck loads took 12 hours. Plus 2 hours to depopulate boards and sort all the bits I took off the boards.

I made a post about depopulating called "depopulate and sort boards with air chisel". If you want to search that and see my results.

I made $250 on the prepared steel and shred steel.

I did hual in the depopulated low grade boards, lead acid batteries and dirty aluminum today and made $140.

I still have a 55gal drum full of #2 wire, transformers and all the mid/high grade boards.

If you include drive time let's say 16 hours total divided by $390

So about $25 an hour minus fuel plus the price of boards and transformers.

Ok so this is a recent pickup I made from the same guy I got all the vhs and dvd players from at the start of this thread.

Medical UPS (think APC for hospital rooms). One of the biggest transformers I have dealt with and 4 nice lead acid batteries.

The slot cards are out of city buses. They are a component on the bus that allows it to interface with the traffic control system that controls streetlights.

Plus a bunch of other random stuff that is going to be a little more fun to break down than 4 truck loads of VHS and DVD.

So I went to an old scrapper friends yard just up the road from my place.

I haven't been taking anything to him since February because he has so much scrap he backed himself into a corner and you can no longer drive up to the scale.

You have to use a hand truck or carry your scrap to the scale. But the advantage of him being a scrap hoarder is that I can always find some good stuff to buy from him.

I went there with the intention on buying an air tank to piggy back my mobile compressor. I ended up with 2 tanks and this sweet squat, dip and pull up rack.

I guess I am also now in the ewaste buying business. I bought a truck load of computers and network switches with one side case removed for .15 a pound.

I think I could have paid more but about half were missing CPU's and Ram.

I also bought 100# low grade boards for .10 and 20# finger/slot cards for .75

He doesn't get much business these days but at least it's another source of ewaste for me.

Picked up 2 loads last night for my ebay/amazon resale contact. First load which is piled in the corner was a mix of network switches, modems, routers, 2 microwaves and a bunch of randoms that I have no clue about. I am about halfway through that pile at the time of this pic. Definitely a lot slower to break down than a whole load of just one thing like VHS or a load of DVD. But the boards are better so I won't complain.

The second load I picked up was 20 server blades and 10 ACP blades. The servers weren't selling so I helped break them open so he could check if there were any boards he could sell. Turns out the PCI cards had resale potential so we took those out of about half the servers. The hard drive trays also sell well. He also grabbed about 6-8 power supplies to sell(2 per server). What I am trying to say is that they are still about 90% complete.

Lastly I got these VHS things from a guy who does clean outs. Not exactly sure that they are. Some kind of editing/recording equipment?

Check any ram in the servers and see if it can be sold for better than scrap.

I connected with a guy that basically collected everything the IT department at his work would give him between 1990 and 2010. He filled a big storage unit. Now he is tired of paying for the unit and is downsizing his collection.

This was a small truck load because I had trash cans and buckets from this mornings scrap yard run in the bed. Maybe 25 mother boards. A lot of them with this intel 486 cpu still on the board(go check ewasted's price on the 486). Boxes of slot cards, cpu's, heat sinks and fans.

I have about 5 more truck loads to pick up from this guy over the next couple weeks as he sorts out his keep items.

woh..u hit the jackpot with that load.

I picked up another load of vintage electronics today from the guy who collected everything from his former employers(PSE archery) IT department. I haven't sorted the boxes yet but I got 3 of these SGI O2 computer systems(3 towers 2 monitors 1 key board and 1 mouse). They retailed for 6-15k new but they are selling for around $150-300 these days.

I gave them to my ebay resale guy for free who I have been getting 2-4 truck loads of items a week for free from him. Yeah sure I could have listed them myself but I really like this guy and have been getting so much free stuff for him that now when I get items that he can sell I just give them to him.

Now if it was one of the higher value SGI systems that currently sell for 5k or more I would have to talk with him about some kind of profit share on the sale. But for now giving away a few good items to sell is building the relationship.

Now I have to get to work sorting out the rest of today's pick up.

I have only had a real steady supply for the last month. But this collecter I found was just from hitting the pavement hard. He had 2 small items listed for free online. Then he tells me during the pickup that he is clearing out most of his collection. I told him he didn't need to post it online that I would take everything. Some of course is going into my own collection.

My steady stream comes from a electronics resale guy. He gives me 2-4 truck loads a week.
