Pretty cool little Kiln. I was hoping it worked but sadly it's not heating up so off to the shred pile it goes.

In other news I have 4 pallets of good PC's coming in next week. I desperately need HD's so i'll be starting a buyers thread this weekend and hopefully it goes live sooner than later...Probably should have started my thread weeks ago.

Anyway I am setting up my workbench as a refurbishing station because up until now I have been doing one PC at a time. I'll be putting up a shelf for the monitors. I'll be needing a couple power strips and some zip ties for cable management so I don't get my wires crossed.

I haven't had very good luck selling PC's with 250gb HD's. When I list the same computer with a 1tb HD it sells. I'll check ebay again because I would actually rather not spend the time testing HD's. I would rather just format and install windows and be done.

Yeah I max out ram but it's kinda hard to sell a nice computers with lets say an i5 3.6ghz CPU with 16gb ram, 4gb GPU with only a 250gb HD. Honestly I think I could do even better if I did 120gb SSD and 1tb HD but I really don't like spending the money on SSDs and waiting for the computer to sell.

So I don't really go look at the computers/e-waste I am buying ahead of time. Mostly just buy them at the right price, go pick them up and it works out. Sometimes it's bad but sometimes it's REALLY good. I bought a half gaylord of circuit boards recently for $250 only seeing a few crude photo's. Maybe you have seen the pictures of ram I posted already. But here is all the 4gb laptop ram sorted. 460 pieces of working ram that when sold in lots of 100 on ebay goes for $10-13 a piece $4600-$6000 total. Not a bad way to start the new year.

I picked up 2 of the 4 pallets of computers I bought sight unseen last week. Turned out to be a pretty decent score with a good number of computers worth refurbishing. I'm finding that almost half of them still have hard drives so thank god for lazy IT guys because they shouldn't have any. Seeing as how I really need HD's at the moment I am not complaining.

Second picture is 12 nice 4th gen i5 computers I will refurbish and sell locally. If not locally then I'll list them on ebay.

Third picture are computers with the most recent Core 2 Duo vpro CPU's.

Fourth pick are slightly older Core 2 Duo's.

5th pic is getting scrapped if they don't sell on craigslist before the next rain we get. I have actually had decent luck selling what I consider scrap computers recently. $15 each for singles or $10 each for 5+. Throw in 1gb ram for $1.50 a piece.

Well I have been on a bit of a buying and selling rampage and have neglected to scrap much of anything the last few weeks. I need to get back to scrapping before I get another letter from the county about my code violations.

I am trying to diversify my income as much as possible but it's hard being a one man band. If I focus on scrapping my local and online sales drop. If I focus on sales my scrap piles up.

I am thinking about switching from one to the other every week. This week is inventory and listing items for sale and next week I can scrap.

BTW that is a different optiplex at the corner of my bench than shown in my last post.

We purchase laptop computers and many components for greater than scrap value. We offer a shipping reimbursement program.replies

Heck of a nice stack there! Check with your yard on the cases for Precisions- I believe the fronts on some are aluminum. They come off real easy through a latch on the inside

My 3 year old girl is pretty good at putting scrap in the correct bins. Boards in the yellow can screws in the blue can wire in the grey can etc etc. She gets mad when I am scrapping something she can't help with lol

I have scrapped a few dozen so far and none have been aluminum but I will be sure to double check. The bigger ones inside my shed are for resale. They are t7500's with dual cpu's. I have had 3 people ask if I had any over the last month. I just got these in last week so I might have some buyers once I get them going.

Scraped a pretty interesting piece today. A Dictaphone with several big finger cards one which had an Intel 486 processor on the card. The power supply will go in with PC power supplies w/wire. 10 pieces of silver ram, big back plane board a couple power boards and the case was sheet aluminum.

It's amazing how much material they put into these old units..........I'd say 10 years from now finding equipment like that to scrap will be obsolete.......Hopefully I'll have saved enough money to at least be comfortable

heat sinks and small copper windings, man thats awesome but a ton of winter work. stuff to be done in front of a TV when its too cold outside to get bigger stuff. All those are a headache with a ton of small screws and little value for the time spent. Something is better than nothing and a steady stream is worth its weight in copper.

Yeah I actually don't down break down a lot of the scientific equipment I get in. I take the easy to pick items and the rest goes in the shred pile. For instance with the centrifuge I took the brass tubes and the piece of aluminum that held the tubes while the rest went in with shred. I used to be able to break down everything.

I do save back some lower grade stuff for when I hit a slump but there has been no slump for the last several months so it's time to clear out some of that stock pile.

The scrapping has been going well. The refurb and resale has been somewhat of an issue until recently. It was hard to sell everything I've been buying but 2 months ago i had a response to a listing I have on Facebook for "cheap computers".

I now have a buyer that me and my wife jokingly refer to as the "computer cartel". They buy every single core 2 duo computer I can get my hands on and when I have too much inventory of nicer computers they buy those as well.

They bring all these back home to mexico to refurbish and sell. It's was a little hard at first to get past the language barrier so the first time we met we just made piles of items and then used a calculator to negotiate a price. It took me back to my trip to the grand bazaar in Istanbul.

Anyway business has been going well and I haven't posted in a while so I figured I would throw up some pics of my shipment that is headed south as I type.

Medical equipment is a good potential for Gold.
That Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer looks to have a round slab of metal with pipe connections to it. Thats the sort of part that has been pointed out to me as either being heavy Gold plated or just plain Gold.

There was a heating block setup for DNA

When I first figured this out a few years ago. The PTC machines were starting to sell second hand thru auctions.
Might get one for $50-$150. Original price.. hmmmmm. $3000-$8000. Before gold went 'High' circa year 2000+2

Studious investigation into manuals would show which units were solid Gold blocks & which were Gold plated solid Silver.

The last time I looked at auctions, a lot were missing the blocks.

This is the other 'Holy grail'

    "So what?" You say.
