I was at the scrap yard as a guy brought in a pretty big stack of Christmas lights. I'd guess approximately 5' long x 8' wide x 5' high. They said it weighed 300#. At just 3 cents a pound he made just $9. I sure hope he had other stuff he brought in too, but didn't see anything else.
P.S. No, that guy was NOT me!

I stuff mine into empty pellet bags, usually do a right around a hundred lbs a year. Brought my 87 lbs in two weeks ago at .05/lb and not feeling so bad about it now.

I cut the bulbs off while watching tv and make them into light #2 insulated which is going for about 45 cents a pound right now. I don't know anyone in my area that takes them straight as is. I've also sold free ones if they're in good shape on craigslist for more than scrap value.

300 lbs here could have got bulk pricing. But not all yards work the same, Especially for such low grade scrap items

If they still work, the LEDs can be worth more than the light stringers
I've sold a "Griswold starter pack" of mixed working lights for the past couple years. Done a lot better than the yard. I filled an excursion for $100 and a smaller suv for 65. I wouldn't have gotten that much money at the scrap yard for working lights by far. If you have space I think it's worth saving them. Lights are expensive new and people know that.

Good point!! I would have loved to see some pixs of the "Griswold starter pack" in the back of the Excursion...If you have space I think it's worth saving them.
