The concrete trucks will probably be hauled as is. The previous owners did a great job of keeping the barrels clean. They will be sold as unprepared instead of as an auto. The weight of the barrels helped me convince the yard that the weight of steel vs fluff is equivalent to a combine. If there was still concrete in the barrel I would have to jack hammer it out. Instead of going to that much work I would just remove the cone. Getting an unprepared price is a game changer. Each truck weighs about 14 tons and the difference between the two prices is between $ 750 to $ 1,000 per truck. I figure a truck can be prepped and towed in one day so I am scheduling two weeks for the trucks alone. After they are towed to the yard the tires and wheels will be removed and that is about all I have to do. The rest of the concrete plant will take about one month. I might be able to sell a few of trucks for better than scrap to local farmers.

You had posted some lower prices how will the lower prices effect this scrap job?

In essence this is easy money with little effort. It will be up to the owners as to the timing. I use the land lease deal on most jobs and some of the owners just want things cleaned up while others want the most they can get for their scrap. Right now an auto body shop, heating company and two farms want it gone. The first two are in city limits and have a reputation to worry about. Sometimes the profit is margin is over ridden by public relations.

All fluids have to be drained and the battery, fuel tank and tires removed. The oil, transmission fluid, and hydraulic fluid are given to a neighbor to use to heat his shop. I shoot holes in the fuel tanks and this is collected in a large container. Life expectancy of diesel fuel is longer than gas so many times this is filtered and reused. A tow bar pictured earlier in another thread will be used so eliminate wear and tear on trailers and other equipment. The drums are dry so there is not extra weight. Good tires will be rotated to ensure each haul has decent tires. The steering wheel, dash, seat, and hoses are the only fluff because the bodies are all steel, not the plastic many modern cars have.

The reason the fuel tank has to be removed in vehicles is because of the number of explosions that have taken place when cars are crushed. I was told one incident cost over a million dollars of damage to a scrap yard. I believe this is true, but cannot verify. The removal of fluids is an environmental concern and these are recycled. Even the tires are used for a berm shop I am building.

Back to the original discussion, it seems Mexico will be instituting measures that will help deter the migration through their country. This should eliminate some of the pressure on the border. This seems to be a good thing regardless of political views.
