Copper dropped another .10/lb today. #1 was at $2.35 a week or so ago, now $1.95. Still hoarding. 2.35 was still not good enough to sell in my book

Yeah, but now its Feb. and as greytuck noted, new contracts go into effect.

blackgold12_ How much of the non-ferrous drop is a panic reaction that China-land is going off-line or at least a big slow down as an end user of metals because of the corona virus outbreaks there...?

Typical of a lot of "free" cl ads in my metro. If that's an ac, might be worth stopping by but half the larger stuff is probably frozen in. The old metal gas can maybe worth more as a collector's item than all the loose other metal. We'll see how long this one lasts on line...

Just trying to help my Denver neighbor get $15-20 more per ton - I hope he saw it if he had another load 1 day later - if it was worth it for him to go 19 miles northeast from Western Metals.

I put all my scrap steel, mostly lightgauge, into washing machine casings & computer & microwave cases & stack them up.
Once theres enough, i organise somebody with a towing vehicle and a trailer & we take it to the scrap buyers & split the $.
Last time, two loads of ~650Kgs got us NZ$30 each load, a few days apart, i gave them the $.

Today, i had a bigger load & the guy had a mesh sided trailer & the 3 of us filled it, we estimated over 700Kgs & $30-$40. One load, all of it gone.
    Sweet.
    Not.
One guy comes back for a visit, says they didnt even get $$ for it.
They had weighed up on the scale, went where directed, unloaded it all, went over the scales again, went to the payout booth, uh
"Sorry, we dont pay out for lightgauge anymore, oh, it was 860Kgs".

So they got NZ$0.00 for it. Thats US$0.00

**** ! I will check with the scrap yard & if thats correct, will give the guy with the trailer $20 & the helper $10.
Since in reality they did take my 'rubbish' away for me.

Thats bad. Its went from getting paid for scrapmetal, to having to pay to get rid of it.
And it was all good clean lightgauge, near to no plastic, no more than 1 Kg.

That seems odd. Still $60-$80/ton here by me (like it has been for a while). Sure this guy wasnt just trying to pull a fast one on ya? "Sorry they didnt pay any money for it!" (while pocketing the money they did pay for it). Did he show you a pay slip that actually had 860kg and $0.00?

Thanks for the heads up guys.

It does seem possible. I did a quick check of scrap metal prices in NZ. They had Steel Shredder Feed & Steel Swarf listed at 0 $/MT. Steel light gauge & Steel tin cans were listed at 100.00$/MT

    https://www.ingotmetals.co.nz/scrap-metal-prices/

It makes you wonder what's going on with the market there.
