Last load I took in was a week ago.
Got $3 a hundred for shred, $5.50 a hundred for rotors.
$1.90/lb for copper 2
$1.35/lb for brass
$0.50/lb for low grade ins wire
$0.33/lb for cans
The area where customers drop shred was completely empty.
I backed in all the way to the wall, I've never seen that in the 16 years I've been going there.
Usually it's a pile 80 feet wide, 50 feet long, and 3 stories tall.
They must have had a pretty good order to wipe that out.
all my prices are in dollarydoos so you may have to convert.
still getting 140 a ton for heavy gauge and 70 a ton for light gauge
alloy is holding at .60c for domstic and .80c for cast and a $1kg for rims
brass dropped 10c a kg to 3.5 a kg
bright and shiny copper wire still $6 kg
no2 copper $5 kg
it will be a slow climb back up cos if people are hording when the demand goes back up a few people will cash in and slow the demand and so on and so on..
excluding political relations and international deals ect..
Pulled into the yard today with the Dodge loaded pretty good.
Scale guy says perfect timing.
Me: ???
Him: Price finally went up this morning, it's now $5/hundred
Me: Woo-hoo! (he says it was $3/hundred the day before)
Had 4 hot water tanks, a gas range, and a lot of old furnace sheet metal sides.
1180lbs total
Yard must still have a big order to fill. They were grabbing up the shred with 'The Claw' as soon as i pulled away from the pile.
Yeah, I need to call my steel yard. Last I checked in either late Oct or early Nov, they were at about $25-30 a ton for their "tin and wire" which is the equivalent to people's "shred" or whatever the lightest steel is called in your area. I have some stuff to take it but not real excited at that price. At least their dirt track around the piles should be frozen up now and not a mud fest...
might seem like a silly question but what do you mean $5/hundred ??
$5 per 100 lbs of weight. So $100 per short/common ton.
Sheet iron $.045 lb.
Unprepared $.0525 lb.
Clean sheet iron $.0575 lb.
Prepared $.06 lb.
Better than the dump!
Cashing out the wire pile and battery pallet tomorrow. I'll post what I get when everything is done.
Did those pallets work out well? I need to come your way again someday. I have tons of stuff for you, and some for the yard too.
More than Scrap Value Shipment Tips: http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/scrap...tml#post242349
I sold 121 Lbs of 'Burnt #2 Copper" & got US$ 240 @ US$ 1.98/ Lb
Thats 55 Kgs & got NZ$363 @ NZ$6.60 / Kg.
That paid off my Vet bill ( A check up ) US$ 66, bought some ( American! ) Hills brand Cat food & some decent Torx driver keys. US$20
That leaves me NZ$125 & i might use that to go to a NewYears music festival.

Bad news all..... Word is steel dropping 15-20/ton for feb. Also copper is dropping like a rock, Total copper is down .30/lb here. Its dropped twice in a week. Ins wire down, ACR's down, No change on brass.
Sorry to be the bringer of (insert goat photo) baaaaaaaaaaaad news
Our yard just put steel up by $10/ ton
Heavy is gonna be $160/ton
Light $80/ ton
no movement on anything else...
$110/ton for shred here.
Haven't taken any non ferrous in for a while.
Ive been watching the trend for a while. Watching the prices get painfully low. One by one ive been accepting less and less items. Now personally it has always been a hobby. But if its a profit hobby im not gonna waste time. Im at a point where i only collect data cable, copper bearing wires, brass and gold bearing boards. See in my area it always seems that when theres less money thered more people looking for it. Personally all my scrap comes from my job. No curbco for me. But i had to thin out what i take because i gotta dedicate the space to more profitable ventures. Im down to 3 or 4 yard trips a year. I feel bad for full timers and really want to see an upturn soon. Locally "Dirty Aluminum" is at 4cents a lb. 152lbs brought in less than $7. Thats less than light iron right now.
It's a part time thing for me as well, I haven't had to or wanted to search for a while now - especially with the mess going on with my in-laws no time anyway, but I do have regulars that contact me and I get things from my work - ferrous, non-ferrous, e-waste, and one person recently contacted me that I hadn't heard from in about a year or so. I've cashed in a good amount from my HVAC contact this past 2 weeks. Prices have gone up here, still not much as compared to before - I am hoping they won't go back down.
65 a ton at western metals in Denver. 69 at all recycling. bleh
