Found some clean steel

Yesterday came up upon a couple of new warehouses being built, probly 60 bay doors with two roll off full of metal framing the were the trimmed pieces. We filled the truck a short bed.Waited till monday till the high paying yards open.

Better hope that those roll offs weren't there specifically to put those steel pieces in for recycling by the builder.

Did you as for permission? look around for cameras?

I get that it's tempting, but you gotta err on the side of not overstepping.

They are just trash bins no signs. I got 4.50 a 100 lbs
for the clean steel

You probably helped them out as price for steel so low it was going to the landfill for a charge.

At $90/ton a full roll-off is still hundreds of dollars of steel scrap. If you ask you might get it for free still *and* on your schedule as well as make a contact for a regular scrap supply from the demo firm. Pulling scrap uninvited from a roll-off can get you banned from yards if there were cameras and whoever owns the roll-off circulates the pictures

...I have gotten paid to haul away things instead in lieu of people getting a roll off. I recently made ALOT for ~2 hours of work (my son and I- I'd rather not post the amount) before my truck accident. It made mockery of my hourly rate for my side gig of IT contracting - and needless to say more than collecting any kind of metal or e-waste - but... there was some scrap in those 2 loads as well. If you have a truck, even with very little skill and a small truck you should have some $$$.
