First run in my new to me truck tomorrow

I have always scrapped in my sedan, most of my non-ferrous runs were just to get rid of the stuff leftover, so it was not a lot, and not a large load. Tomorrow will be my first run with my truck since I have gotten it. I went out 2 times this week and got 2 bed-fulls of stuff. Going to break it all down tomorrow and re-pack and run it to the yard tomorrow. I think it'll be somewhere around 900-1100 lbs of shred and a couple pounds here and there of stuff I get from breaking stuff down (some alum, batteries, ballasts, wire etc). Probably wont be a ton of money, but excited to see how much I can cram into the bed with some careful planning.

It will also be my first time at a new yard I am trying out, since I got a nail in my tire at my usual yard, figured I would try somewhere new that is a little closer too.

Will try to post some pics of the load and the pay ticket

Just don't pop those truck tires at the yard. I did that with my kid's old pick-up, took me another 8-10 loads to make it back of the little amount of steel I take in.

Exactly! That is why I am trying this new yard. A new tire was $80.... It'll take probably 5-6 loads to make that back up. Oh well, thats how it goes!

Oh the extra bonus from the scrap yard, a free nail! lol. Every tire on my truck has at least 2 plugs in them.

Well it turns out the stuff felt a lot heavier when I was loading it then it actually was lol

Thought it was like 900lbs, only ended up being 500. I had a few other odds and ends from the trip (lead battery, wired cut out from stuff, and some copper bits that I had laying around)
Here is the ticket.

Only ended up being $24 but better than nothing. Still have 5 shop lights from this week that have ballasts and wires too that I havent taken apart yet, and some aluminum bits I didnt take either. So overall, probably end up being $30 from the 2, 45min scrap sessions from this week. Again, not great, but Im not out there trying that hard for this stuff so cant complain.

Yep! it sure is.... I would have preferred 4x4 but this one I got for a deal and if it were 4x4 it would have been many thousands more than what I payed for it. My wifes car has 4x4 so if we ever NEED to get somewhere in snow we can take her car. Otherwise, I am fine with 4x2.... better on gas too

That yard rounds to the nearest dollar? I guess you could be playing that every time you go.. you got $2/lb for your copper

YES! This was my first time at this yard. And they had signs up that they round to the nearest dollar. For the copper, that worked in my favor ($3.66 actual value, got $4), but for insulated wire it did not ($3.15 actual, got $3). I guess they figure it all evens out and then they dont have to deal with change. Also there was multiple 18-wheelers of scrap at this same yard, so I imagine they deal with much larger amounts and that a dollar either way doesnt really effect them too much.

Exact same scenario as me, but I deliberately looked for 4x2 - less expensive to begin with, less expensive to insure, maintain, more payload capacity and saves on fuel. Our car is AWD.

The neighbor's farm has a few of those rear wheel drive Tacomas. Those little things put up with a LOT of abuse and handle it well. A Tacoma is too small to handle my enclosed E-Waste trailer in the mountains, but for someone who needs a smaller run-around truck, they're amazingly good at it

As for tires, I luck out there- our yard lets me pull anything I want off the tire pile there. My metal trailer hasn't popped one yet, but I did have to get a couple tubed. I replace tires early on all my trailers, except the metal one and the landfill one. Those I'll run until they're legally bald. I really want to avoid a nail in a brand new Firestone
