Congrats on the haul , what’s your plan for the crt monitors ? I found a local place that will take mine after I gut them . How much do you love that taco ? They are great trucks !

Toy Taco Todd.... I love the truck. An '01 with 286K and runs like a little sewing machine..... AND, when I bought it new in '01, they gave me free tires for life! 8 sets so far!

I have printed out the paper off of there website due to managers trying to make their own policy.
There’s nothing that says that they have to be complete. It is part of Staples sustainability program. It makes them look better and it probably a decent tax write off.
I have gotten rid of 7 CRT monitors a day for 2 stores a day for about a week and had no questions asked before.
The policy states that the store manager can take more on a case by case basis. That has helped with things such as a bag full of mice with cords cut off or speakers.

Whoever Raceway Chevrolet is, I really don't want to buy a car there now. But, who am I kidding- everything I buy is from auction anyways. It's probably why I have so many vehicle problems....
Those Toyotas are really solid trucks. You should get way more than 150k out of her. A few nice loads like that and you'll wonder how you ever made do without it!

I guess technically, yea, it doesnt say on their website they have to be complete..... but at least for my first load to them, I will take 7 (or maybe just 1) complete to feel it out. If the guy is like "yea just throw them in the giant e-waste dumpster out back", then yea I can probably bring whatever quantity in whatever state of disrepair... if he looks at everything and is skeptical if he can even take them, then I would probably have less luck bringing them torn apart. But I will probably go soon and report back how it went. I'll also have the website up on the phone in-case the manager goes "we dont take those".

I did see that, however even further down on the page in the FAQs it does say
"Store management has the right to refuse to accept items that may pose a health or safety risk (e.g., broken monitors not packed in a box, laptops with damaged batteries, etc.). If you are unsure whether an item is acceptable, please contact your local Staples with questions."
So going off that, it seems they SHOULD take even broken/gutted monitors (provided they are packed in a box? lol)
My guess is it is highly dependent on each individual store what they will/want to take. And even within the same store it could change day to day based on whos working, how much room they have, how busy they are, etc, etc. I'll just have to go and find out in person at my local one(s)! I am pretty hopeful that they will take them. First reason being, they have a contract with an E-waste processor, so it doesnt really make a difference to them (as a company) they just pass it along down the line, and second reason being that they get graded on how much "waste/scrap" they take back and "keep out of landfills" (in a ratio to what they sell). So they may WANT more bulk/monitors/heavy stuff to pad their numbers. For example, bestbuy advertises that they took back "over 2 billion pounds of electronics waste last year", staples/best-buy/etc may want to take back a bunch to make them seem as "environmentally friendly" as possible.
We will find out soon when I take them!

My county drop-off was kinda in the middle. I would take the yoke and all the wire from the CRT but left the brown board. No broken tubes or shell allowed. As long as something was left in the unit, they never bothered me. Flat panel was free drop off but had to be whole.
Unfortunately …. All this has come to a screeching halt as of the 1st if this year. We now have a $15 PER UNIT on ALL TVS and monitors, both fat screen and CRT. I had a good talk to the floor manager and they are now finding them mixed in the tip floor, mixed in with the rubbish. Seems ppl are not taking it well.
I’ll be checking out my local Staples for an outlet.

Yea I dont understand why they dont all take them free for drop off. The way I see it, people are either going to drive it there, and drop it off for free (where it is at least separate and able to be handled/recycled properly)... OR they are going to charge a fee and then people will instead just slip them into the trash bags, throw them in a random dumpster (or on the side of the road), etc....
But I guess they figure if you dump them in a river, side of the road, or other companies dumpster, its not their problem, and they would rather that than have to pay to get rid of them for you. It only hurts them if they come in un-noticed in their normal trash.... and even then if they pretend they dont see it they can probably just bury it in the landfill without anyone noticing if there is no one there to audit it....
People need free options to do things with their discarded items or it ends up becoming pollution, simple as that. Hopefully staples is our savior....
edit: I am not saying I would do any of these illegal or unethical disposal methods, I am just referring to "people" in general. I always properly dispose of everything, even if it costs an arm and a leg... prefer it free though obviously......

Funny thing is, I believe the big e-waste company that takes my local Staples stuff AND who is contracted by the county is one in the same.

Nothing is truly free.......Not sure your situation but here we pay both a city and county property tax as well as sales tax on every item we buy........no state income tax but everything else is taxed along the way

If your lucky and sneaky enough.... strip them out, leave that crappy circut board in it along with the vga cord still attached, seal it back up, put a peice of paper with "broken" on it, put out front and if your lucky...... Someone will take it. Ive done it a few times. But if no one bites... I have to wait till the once a year electronic drop off in town.
At least the crt monitors have some copper value compared to regular tv crt's.

no one around me will take them off the curb. I know that for a fact. I also see, literally hundreds, being offered for free in my local area on letgo/craigslist. No one want them except landfills (for money usually), or subsidized landfills (like the one by me you need to be a resident of the local county, and show id and are only allowed 3, and they must be in one peice... this is subsidized by local taxes I am assuiming, hence the id/residency checking) OR places required by law (in PA) to accept them because they sell similar items (bestbuy, staples, etc).

Just FYI for anyone following along.... Staples took them. The didnt seem thrilled about it but they confirmed they DO take them. I said "Your website says you take CRT monitors AND I called earlier to confirm that you do...."... and the guy said yea just bring them in, so I filled 2 carts with them (7x 19" CRT and 1x 21" LCD) and left the carts by the counter where he told me and I was on my way.... I felt bad so I signed up for the free rewards program lol....
I did offer to wheel them back to wherever they take them and unload them and he said nah just leave them by the counter.
7 down, 8 to go... Ima wait a few days then go back with load 2. Hopefully a different guy working lol
