I guess it depends on how big it is.
I guess it depends on how big it is.
Some people thing there crap is worth $100s....If I was you. I would send them an e-mail sayin that you will pick it up but only at blank price or for free as the worth of it is low for scrap. So if they just want it gone to give you a call.
I hear from most people about 4days later after there ad is flagged a few times an no phone calls.
Yeh. Ten bucks plus fuel for an ac unit? Wonder if they still have it. Wait it out or email them and say when it's free call me. I do get a chuckle out of some. Lady yesterday didn't want to start a scrap war with her metal pool with surrounding wood deck. She wanted the deck down and removed before the pool was taken. Heh?
I work CL pretty hard and get everything for free. You can tell when not to respond to the add.
Here's a good one (copied and pasted):
I have a Kenmore electric dryer, about 7 years old and a GE washer both do not work. Truthfully I cannot remember what is wrong with the dryer and the washer works but sounds like its screaming and doesn't seem to wash that well. They are in my basement and you would have to remove them, bring a hand truck or 2 very strong men. I have a side screen door which YOU would take off the hinges as well as put back and then about 6 wood steps straight down. If you feel like fixing, or turning in for scrap these are for you! Someone once told me the scrap yard will pay about 30 bucks for a washer, I just want them out of my basement asap!
There's nothing more fun and more effective than hitting something repeatedly with a sledgehammer
LOL @ 30 bucks.
Man, I'm getting ripped off then.
Sounds like a nice lady...
I had a call similiar to that a week ago. A washer/dryer in a basement, downtown boise (capital city), and they wanted $15 for it all. I had to drive about 14 miles there, it took me about an hour to get them both out, took the door off, then put it back on, and loaded it. The guy complained it took me so long, then asked $20. I told him i could offer 10, like i stated when i arrived, he got angry, said he'll call the cops and say i "stole" them. I thanked him, told him to have a nice day.
Backed up the truck, put them appliances right in his front yard. By put, i mean, slid them out of the truck and let em crash.
Gotta love stupid people.
People are crazy. You did all the work, and he wants $20 for it.
Wow hoss thats rough but stick in there. There are plenty of normal people out there who know that giving you their old junk is payment for your hard labor. I could see if it was some aluminum or copper perhaps some other more expensive metal... Dont let one bad day get ya down we all have them.
Hey Hoss, you might think about having some stipulations and a contract for just such occasions. Say there was a scratch on the wall and you get blamed for it then sued. Maybe you could charge people if you have to remove things from their house and have them sign a contract covering your butt. That way, if you ever did(assuming you don't) decide to get business insurance, that would cover the cost of your insurance. If they don't like those terms tell them to take it out of the house themselves! What a jerk!
That's good. Yo can't trust anybody anymore. Only the people complaining that people don't have any honor are the ones who do, and their doing all the work!
On the Boise, Idaho CL.
Not scrap, but still ridiculous.

I actually need those!
Hilarious! I thought about this one. What do you suppose he did next? Repost to craigs saying free scrap appliances in front yard, come & get 'em? Makes me wonder. Suppose you had a buddy to send over there and ask the guy if the junk out front is up for grabs and offer to take it for free. Would he have given them away free? Then again, if you have a decent buddy, you wouldn't want to suck away his time, too.
Enjoyed your story. Some jobs turn out to be a waste of time. Ok, back to work.
