I thought this one was kind of "interesting":

Scrap guys!!! Tons of scrap for free (maine)
I have 3 mid sized cars, 1 truck and an old tractor. I want them gone in the next couple days, easy access....FREE!!!

First come first served, txt or call, leave message. I will remove ad when all is gone.
    207-409-8979

So I "Googled" the number and got this: I haul cars

(there is a scrap yard in Augusta)

I get mad as hell when I see ads like that. As the owner/operator of a small trucking company here in South Dakota, I have to carry insurance on my truck and trailer, cargo insurance, pay heavy use tax to the IRS, pay for COMMERCIAL license plates, run a log book, have a cdl & fight for every load I can find to make a buck. Then you get some billy big rigger with a pickup and trailer that doesn't have any of the things I just mentioned, he just does it as a hobby and ruins it for the rest of us. Makes me sick.

Iv got a truck and trailer and grab scrap cars for extra cash. You could call it a hobby i guess. All i need is commercial plates and commercial insurance to legally haul them. Both of which iv got. If the truck and trailers over 10,000 pounds, thats when you gotta get into the stuff you listed off. Im in canada but im sure we have all he same stuff. I dont think im ruining it for anyone. I cant haul near the weight you can. If anythig all the stuff you listed off is helping keep every joe shmoe from doing what you're doing and really ruining it.
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

I applaud you for having commercial plates and insurance, there's alot of people out there who don't. My comment was more to the people who don't have commercial plates or insurance but still haul commercially for little or nothing & just do it as a hobby. There's alot of farmers around here who do this, they haul the same commoditys as I do, to and from the same places as I do but they don't have any of the permits or licenses that I have to carry but they still get away with it, I mean there license plates cost $500 a year, mine cost $4,000 a year plus insurance costs..................either way you slice it, it just aint right.

Here in canada, normal yearly stickers are 80 bucks, to up my weight rating this year to 10,000 pounds, is almost 500. Plus insurance. Then if you go over 10,000 pound rating you gotta contact the CVOR (Commercial Vehicle something something) and pay them 2000 a year +/- to get a CVOR Number. If you get caught one pound over without that number, they throw the book at you. the MTO are ruthless up here. On a little side note, They did a tow truck blitz up here last week Just in our county, pulled over 30 trucks, 15 got their plates pulled right on the side of the road for being unsafe. That boggles my mind. I wondered why they made everything so complicated, but now i realize its because of IDIOTS like those guys that they need to make those laws. Not worth it to me to risk thousands of dollars to make a few bucks.

As for crazy ads, just found this one:

    2000 Mazda MPV Van - $300

Transition is going it does not go into park so you have to use parking break, starts in neutral, great for someone mechanically inclined or a parts car. Belt makes whooshing noise but engine runs good. fold down back seats, year 2000, radio removed. 2 sets of tires in good condition ( winter and summer) both on rims .. Rims on winter are rusted and pink. 550 tires and van. 385 you have to put on your own tires . And is gone tonight FIRM Responds to emails quickly.

First, they title the ad that they want 300. Second, they add that they want more $$$ with tires on it. Third, if you dont want to pay 550 (not 300 like the ad says) to get tires with it, you need to bring your own rims and tires.... how is anyone gonna pick this thing up with no tires, let alone have their own set of rims that would fit this thing.

BTW, if it doesnt go into park, chances are its not the "Transition." err...Transmission.
This ad isnt too bad compared to others iv seen.

IF I could get it for $100, it might be worth it - I'd let them keep their tires and winch it on the trailer. A 2000 Mazda MPV Van weighs 3730 pounds. From the description, doesn't seem like there'd be much to salvage.

Jord, I think Canada is like the US for hauling stuff, so if you're hauling cars you bought, you wouldn't need commercial plates or cargo insurance.

Dieseldozer, you run into that problem in almost every industry. The guy trying to make a living and playing by the rules is at a definite disadvantage. The problem is the lack of enforcement. It's so easy to get away with hauling freight with unregistered and uninsured vehicles, it's ridiculous. Unless you're driving a "big rig", you won't even get stopped and questioned.

Found this one tonight, I see this same thing all too often. People ruining it for everyone.

Re: Lane recliner on the curb... I want to apologize to anyone who may have wasted their time coming out to look at this rocker/recliner. Unfortunately it is not something I would consider useable anymore. While I was out someone decided to disassemble the chair and remove all of the metal parts within the chair!! (I am guessing for scrap???) After which this person(s) dumped an old TV on the chair, filled my trash can with a lot of other junk and left. The chair WAS in great shape (Aside from a minor repair needed on the base, as mentioned in my previous post.) and is now trash. As soon as I arrived home to see what had been done I removed the CL ad. If you had traveled to see the chair I am truly sorry you wasted your time! Sad!

Ok That is some Bull-Water.. Dang.. it is stuff like this that gives every person out there looking a bad name. I remember I found about 10 buckhorn plastic totes- The GOOD ones that stores use to ship goodies to the stores on the truck. I wanted those totes- when I got to them- they were FULL of stuff- knick-knacks, books, BRICKS.. you name it- I loaded all of them- full of the junk.. and saw it as my duty to dispose of the junk inside.
