Don't care for loading the van when going to the yard, little to anul about trying to maximize space and takes longer then I would like it. Unloading at the yard is one of my faves tho cuz your just huckin crap out...I consider it theraputic. And then you get $$$ when ur done.

climbing into a stinky, smelly dumpster on a hot day when flies are at their worst...but you have to 'cause you see something with a long chord and a motor in it !!!
Driving past scrap that I can't grab b/c I don't hae the proper equipment!
Getting dirtier than a junk yard dog and finding places to store my goods.
Storing large loads of steel cuz the yard isn't open when I pick it up.
There's nothing more fun and more effective than hitting something repeatedly with a sledgehammer
Breaking something down that gets me oily and grimy on a hot summer day.
Running out of space to store metals until I run them in. Having to put stuff in the driveway and I'm bombarded with scrappers "hey, you throwing that out?"
Sold a few fridges to a so called appliance repairman. I'll give you more than scrap price he says. Yeah, that didn't happen but I felt sorry for the guy.
Said he would come back the next day to pick up. I come home and the sob is pissing in my bushes.
He then tries to drum up more business by offering to fix any other appliances I have, or to buy parts from him. Uh no. You piss all over my plants and then want my business. GTFO and stay out.
Wish I had a secure space. I get nervous that so many people stop by wanting it, that they'll just return for it later.
Not having a place to work out of. I work out of my house and have to break the steel down and cram it in a trailer real tight to keep it out of sight from the neighbors. I'm always trying to keep "my scrapyard" out of sight and can't accumulate the quanitities of stuff I want to to get a better price.
I wish I had some secure commercial property to work out of.
Our local yard gives us good prices on all our stuff, whether it's 20 lb or 200 or 2000.
Taking the 9 thousand rusty screws out of extruded aluminum trim. I want the best price I can get and that's part of getting it. I focus on aluminum so comes with the territory.
I really hate long lines at the scales. Wasted time!!
Stripping wire is hands down my least favorite thing. I've got a pile now that had been sitting in someones barn for maybe a decade or more. It's all heavy gauge so I gotta do it...one day I'll invest in a stripping machine, but for now its my trusty stanley razor knife.
Nope, we're just one of a thousand scrappers across their scales. Their prices are better on most stuff than the Omni Source yard over at Ft. Wayne. Omni is better priced on junk cars/trucks. I second gypsy on the stripping wire, it's an evil necessity.Do they count you as a dealer?
When I am going into the basement of a derelict house and steps break on the stairs
ALWAYS TELL SOMEONE WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING, and always have a cell phone.
I make most of my money stripping old houses, and most of them are ready to fall down, I always have a rope with me too, tied up outside to my truck and strung down the stairs. Was in a house last thursday and the bottom 2 steps busted going down, and then the next 2 busted coming up, thank god I had my rope! I would have been in there for a few hours before anyone came for me!
I hate being on a busy fast moving street and having to pass stuff by because I can't stop - that really hurts.
Scrapping and I have a love hate relationship. I love it because it keeps me busy and it can be fun/interesting. I hate it because it keeps me too busy and now while I'm driving down the road I'm constantly checking trash out and thinking about how to maximize my time. Just thinking about it, haven't actually done anything with my thoughts yet. Might think about it some more and see how that goes, but I'll probably just end up thinking about thinking about it...Kinda like right now. See how it is in my mind...Ugh lol
