Howdy y’all, long time no post. Pretty stupid move on my part but I’m pretty sure I got banned from a yard here in BHAM today. I picked up a fire proof fire cabinet from work today, first time I’ve ever seen one. The thing weighed at least 400lbs and I thought it was going to be made of two thick layers of steel with a thin layer of fiberglass or concrete in between. Was expecting to have a weight deduction for the filler.
Anyway, I go to the closest yard to my work and the scale manager tries to move it but assumed it was a normal file cabinet since I had it strapped in my truck. He waves me on, and the magnet operator takes it out of my truck and smashes it on the ground. The thing has a paper thin layer of steel around 3” of concrete, so basically all garbage. The owner got real pi$$ed off and I apologized over and over again to the foreman but I heard over the radio that I wouldn’t be allowed back. They loaded it back into my truck and I took it to the landfill.
100% the stupidest thing I’ve done in my 8+ years of scrapping, as well as my first ever rejected load. Oh well, learned something new and there are many other yards in the city I can use instead. The sun will rise again tomorrow.
