An anvil just doesn't work very well when it's on the floor so I recently made a stand out of some metal scraps.

If it wasn't for the $ in $crap, it would just be.....
The handle extends to give me leverage to make moving it easy. I love this thing and wish I would have made it years ago.
Great idea and hope you do not mind someone copying your work.
Give back more to this world than we take.
Looks great, and solid. Sometimes I think I should pick up some metal working skills to be able to make things like this.
Thanks guys I appreciate the comments. I would be glad to offer advise to anyone that wants to make one.
I have been looking into things people have made for their vises, the ones out of wood, but this definitely beats those. A good vise is not cheap, so I am searching for a deal, I'll find one eventually. I had a good one at the last place I had, but I ended up giving everything away to the person that cleaned out the 2200 square feet of mess (I had money and health issues at the time).
I'll revisit this thread if I get there, thanks!
Please provide the advise. I am all ears.
The most important thing is the proper height. If you stand with your arms at your side and then make a fist you want your knuckles to just touch the top of the anvil. Too low and you hit with the far side of your hammer, too high and you hit with the near side, but at the right height you hit solidly with the face of your hammer.
(A) You also want a solid base . I used 12 - 4 x 4's
(B) I captured the 4 x 4's with angle iron on the top and bottom. (old bed frame rails)
(C) I cut some 1 1/2" tube steel into 1" pieces. 4 per side and then welded a piece of 1" flat steel across them to create 7 tool holder holes on each side.
