been a busy week this week!! no end in site, and how I did it.

Have probably 150+ desktops stacked there, have about 30 servers in another stack, and probably 50 laptops, a good number of which can be resold for a pretty good penny. Pretty happy with myself this week.... got about the same amount of pickups scheduled for next week... This thing is really starting to work out for me and for the first time feel like I might be able to do this full-time (after I retire from my day job in like 10 years lol)...

This all started when I made a post on the "nextdoor" app/website, stating I would come pick up any computers/servers/tablets/cell phones/electronics** with some disclaimers to make sure it was worth the trip, within 10 miles of my house.

Before I knew it I had 100+ requests and have been trying to work through and schedule them all. Some are businesses where Im getting 20+ at a time, some are just single homes with 1 computer. Ive been doing 5-6 pickups a day while "working from home" at my day job too, and have about as many scheduled for next week, and also about as many who said they are still getting stuff together and will reach out when they are ready.

I think Im finally settling into my niche, and going to focus less on normal scrap and focus entirely on computers/servers. I know enough about electronics and computers to repair and fix them and to know what is worth what, and selling a working i7 cpu laptop for $150 on ebay after fixing it, beats hauling around 15 washers/dryers to get the same money. I still will take normal scrap when the situation arises, but I feel like I have had a revelation and am at a turning point in my scrapping journey, and just wanted to share. Feel free to tell me to eff off lol

edit: title should be sight not site* cant edit the title though.

Congrats on your success! "in site" makes sense if you think about how quick it all piles up!

Looks good. Keep at it, there can be good return in electronics if you know what you are doing.

Can't tell what OS those Optiplexes have but today had a call center customer buy 20 core 2 duo pcs with Windows 7 with monitor/mouse/keypads for just over $2k total. Included a few optiplxes. There are good opportunities ever for pre-I series machines if you build a good client base.

Holy CRAP! Does he need any more? I have tried to sell older ones on facebook and ebay with no luck or for not enough money to be worth it.... but I had probably 50+ core 2 duo PCs I scrapped out last week.... my current strategy is to only try to resell i3/i/5i/i7/i9 items as the rest didnt seem to bring in any money.... I gotta look a bit harder for a buyer I guess, darn

Also, all mine have no hdd/os. I offer to take out and leave drives with the business so they do not have to worry about data getting out, plus it also adds value to my service. Ill also offer to drill through the drive/platters infront of the customer too and THEN take the drives with me. So even at $100/computer, the time/cost for me to get a HDD, put it in annd install an OS on it may not be worth it.

Most of mine recently I have been selling as working/boots to bios on ebay, it has been working very well for recent models just not for old models.

My flow chart is basically: .... nvm I started making one on lucid chart but it had to many squares and said Id have to pay to add more >

Basically any PC built for Windows 7 or newer is sellable for gtsv if you build a client base that will continually source from you. Easier for me to say being a full time operator in a large city but 100% possible for you too, just might take a little longer depending how many and what kind of office businesses are around you. Earlier core 2 duo machines are less likely to sell unless you take the time to upgrade the CPU too. You're of course right to focus on i-series machines. It would also be harder to sell the core 2 duo windows 7 machines if I wasn't selling them with monitor/keyboard/mouse which always expands your possible buyers.

    Very interesting input.

I get tons of monitors, at the moment just take them to staples to recycle them for free, and keyboard and mice I usually just snip the cord (for local scrap yard) and put the cordless mouse/keyboard into the shred pile. I get enough monitors and keyboards that I could sell as sets.... but that would really take up a ton of room too hold onto that stuff, plus not having an OS/HDD really limits local buying options.

I totally get that this could get me a few more bucks if I had the time to get hdd/os installed and also had the space to keep inventory for long enough to sell it (usually I only keep the i-series, and the rest get the parts pulled out and the cases gone to local yard as shred so I can minimize the space footprint of just the mobos vs the whole case)....

I dont have to tell you, I know im preaching to the choir but it's all a balancing act, of course, of time vs effort vs profits.... still trying to find the balance myself, like everyone else, and what works for me... but for sure value your input man, thanks!

We purchase laptop computers and many components for greater than scrap value. We offer a shipping reimbursement program.replies

It's great to see how much scrapping is taking off for you!

So, anyone know of any call centers in Wyoming? I could use to get rid of a few older OptiPlexes

Thanks! It is taking off for sure, I have to scale back a little for now so I can keep my day job lol.... Cant lose my primary income source especially cause I got my first kid coming due in May.... but Im finding the balance of day job and electronics stuff.... Like my boss at my day job always says "12 hours is a half day" (meaning a 9-5 work normal "half-day" is 4 hours, but he kids that "half-day" is actually meant in the literal sense....implying that you should be working 24 hours a day lol) I been putting a lot of hours in on both jobs recently. But the work will pay off.

Fwiw searching 'wyoming call centers' pulls up a solid number of job listings that are not work from home. They're good clients to sell to and occasionally get ewaste from as they tend to turn the whole office over at once. And if you do a little tech work, take the occasional service call. Anytime I've got 10+ of an identical decent machine I try to sell as a group with monitors/etc and hope to land *some* kind of office being put in or turned over.
