Yesterday and today, I shopped at Curbco. I love that, but the way is the collection is scheduled here, it can actually be done only once per month (but nothing block you from always keeping an eye on the curbside while driving around town). Also, it always seems to be the most humid day of the month. So humid, we had a tornado warning today. The results was no rain at all, but my t-shirt was totally wet from sweat after I finished to part out some of my new treasures. I jumped straight in the shower after that. No matter how humid it was in the last two days, the selection to pick up from was scarce, but the few items I got are top notch.
Yesterday, at my first stop, I've got three ceiling fans (with aluminum cast parts and their copper motors), an aluminum screen door and a box of mixed metal, including a copper pipe and some aluminum gutter parts. That was a profitable stop, but the screen door was a bit weird to prepare. The geniuses there tried to fix it using crazy glue between the nylon screen and the rubber gasket. The two minutes preparation before putting in the aluminum bin has taken a bit more time and no need to say that they failed to fix it (because I got it). On my way home, I also stumbled on a full bag of aluminum cans waving at me on the roadside. I had no choice, but picking up that hitchhiker and it was $12 in return value and 3-4 lbs of non-returnable cans for the aluminum bin. The best part of the story is that run was all done while returning home from shopping in an actual store and that stuff paid all the gas and the items I need at the store.
This afternoon, I went back shopping. Two or three minutes after I started, I found two copper rads and an electric motor sitting next to an useless sun chair. That's a good start, but the best item of the week was at my next stop: a full brass bed headboard. Four little bolts and screws to remove a steel plate and everything else is yellow brass. The weight should be about 20 lbs. I can't believe it, but the magnet won't stick and it scratches yellow! Second run, I unearthed an aluminum gazebo folded, well tied up and ready to go with me and then the last run of the day. On my first stop of that last run, I found a Coleman road trip portable bbq that look brand new. Since it uses propane and I want to keep my eyebrows in my face, I am not sure if it is save to test it, but the willingness to use it is there. That's good looking bbq and quite easy to carry at a tailgame. On the last stop of the day, I found a golf bag with its set and a Jacuzzi pump (large electric motor in that thing).
I think that I did fine for two or three hour of driving.
