    Aluminum degaussing cable

[rant]Nothing new under the sun, but it s*cks when you're done after removing the insulation on a degaussing cable and you find aluminum strands instead of copper ones. Can the manufacturers think a bit more about us scrappers instead of cutting down on their manufacturing costs? [/rant]

Edit: Same thing with electric motors.

As soon as I feel a weight difference, immediate disappointment sets in.

It is still my TV days. out of all my CRT's I have only gotten one AL degaussing cable. Now I always cut before removing the sticky cover.

Last month I was stripping a motor and cut off one end of the stator. I saw white metal so threw in scrap pile. After I took it in and gave to owner I noticed only half the windings were AL the rest was CU. Too late he already had it. I now check everything.

Agree, the same with transformers. I've been cutting mine for the last 2 weeks? I found 2 that were aluminum and maybe 6 that were aluminum on the outside and copper on the inside.

I don't cut any transformers unless I take a file to the top and bottom coils first. I have wasted my time on those too.
