Hey all! While I've bought scrap loads with significantly higher overall value, I think this is a new record for the most I've spent on a single commodity at once. The ticket isn't complete, I have one more barrel to weigh so it will be about 600lbs higher when it's all said and done. It's my first purchase from this customer and we now have two of our brand new, 3'x3'x3' steel bins there for them to accumulate more shells. We're signing a lease on a new, larger facility this week and we now have two trucks running all day, five days a week. Things are really picking up for us and a lot of it has to do with what so many keep saying in response to new member introductions: read the old threads. To be sure I learned a lot on the job when I worked for a scrapyard, especially when it comes to industrial recycling machinery operation and sub-categories of commodities we all know, but it all started here with a frequently overloaded Dodge 1500 with a liftgate. Taking to time to read the old threads and members' experiences with sourcing, processing, disassembly (and NOT disassembling!) opened up an unexpected career opportunity. And here I am my own boss now, making a living recycling. And for the record, 8,000lbs of brass shells is enough that I can sell directly to a shredder instead of a commercial yard or brass aggregator where I would sell smaller quantities at a much lower price than what I paid for this today ($2.55/lb).
