Hi there.
Just picked up a snow blower the other day and I'm wondering how much scrap I should see coming my way.
What kind of materials are in one? I'm guess a great deal of steel (it was really heavy), some aluminum and I don't know what else...
It's gas by the way....
Anyone break one down and find different materials? What are they? Just curious...gonnna break this one down my self.....

Some motors have aluminum, but sorting the aluminum from the steel is a pain. If the tires are still good I remove them and the axle for other carts that I build. I usually discard the entire thing as either unprepared or aluminum breakage.

It should be quite similar to a lawn mover.
There's a tiny amount of copper wire, usually some cast aluminum and mostly steel. I second Patriot's suggestion to sell as is. You can also have a quick look using ebay Sold Items filter and see if that model has parts that sell for a good price that you can remove and just sell the rest as shred.

Many times the gears in the transfer case or the drive gears break. If that's the case then you have a good small engine that you should be able to sell. Like Patriot said, also keep/sell the wheels .

I pull off the plastic cover and bottom and remove the gas tank (garbage). then remove the alum blade spinner pieces( if not a tiller style blade), cover for the pullys and belt, and the alum handle and shred the rest. The engine is alum breakage but at current prices i wouldnt bother removing that, its like half a cent difference in price comparied to shred. Dont waist too much time on them. I personally cant stand them. Theres always something else better to break down / clean. But theres only 1 way to find out if its worth your time or not

So I'm seconding most people's posts in that snowblowers are a pain to take apart. Its been like 4 days, and I'm still hacking at this thing....mostly at the steel so I can have smaller pieces to put in my SUV so I can fit other stuff....don't know if I'll pick one up again lol
