- Can you sell a catalytic converter for scrap in your state?

In Arizona even though the state stops short of saying individuals can't sell their own catalytic converter's there are some federal regulations on the topic but legitimate scrap dealers here will not buy them at all from individual sellers not associated with a licensed automotive shop or recycler. What are the requirements or regulations regarding the private sale of catalytic converter's in your state?
Yup! You can here in NV with the same stipulations as with any other scrap metal: government issued photo id if selling as a member of the public or a business license if selling as a commercial entity.

Same as JJinLV (in Neveda). We can sell them, but government issued photo id or business license are required as for selling any other type of metals. I don't deal often with them, but what I understand is if you're stateside, it can be more advantageous for you to sell it to specialized sellers working nationwide (we have a few ones on this site).Originally Posted by JJinLV
NEW TO SCRAPPING? READ THIS: Build up your horde of magnetic and non-magnetic metals in two piles until you have a better understanding of the business. Magnetic material has low value and is mostly always steel / shred / short iron. Read old threads about non-magnetic metals and ewaste (and how to sort them), but don't forget that they generally have absolutely no tolerance for contamination (screw / iron / foreign material).
