Do you mean searching and picking up stuff or posting an ad and getting stuff? The latter worked for me.
NEW TO SCRAPPING? READ THIS: Build up your horde of magnetic and non-magnetic metals in two piles until you have a better understanding of the business. Magnetic material has low value and is mostly always steel / shred / short iron. Read old threads about non-magnetic metals and ewaste (and how to sort them), but don't forget that they generally have absolutely no tolerance for contamination (screw / iron / foreign material).
I mean posting an ad for your services. Specifically how much work do you get from it?

There are good examples of flyers to search on this forum. This is what I adapted when I posted my ads. It was basically just "get rid of your old stuff, free local pickup, call me at 555-1234" I added a picture or two and then I listed it in three categories. Since Craigslist is free to use, it costs nothing to advertise, it stays online for like 3 months, the site emails you to renew it. I didn't get rich, but whatever it brings will be free money with no cash investment to do (just some time).
One of the best scrap loads I ever got was from a Craigslist ad I posted. Wanted. It was several years ago, but it was a good haul
I’m a kijiji user and have paid the premium to keep the ad at the top cost $152 cdn a month . Been doing that for about 8 months and usually get a call within a day or two that pays for the ad . I d estimate easy $2,000 a month in buisness comes from the ad . And many times the customer becomes a regular .
