Well ... here we are on the first day of 2024. There sure have been a lot of changes over the years.
Ewaste is still around but it's not like it was ten years ago. I made some structural changes at work recently. Consolidated the ewaste in with all of the other universal waste items like rechargeable batteries and fluorescent bulbs into the same storage area. There are so few TV's and computers coming in that there's no need for them to have their own building now.
Any idea how old the meat grinder is ? It almost looks like it's got the whole art deco thing going on with the base. It's amazing when you think about it. You wouldn't expect a starting capacitor to last much more than 20 years. The only insulation on the motor winding wires is varnish. You would think it would degrade over time. Still ... those old motors just keep running and running. It's not like the electric motors they build these days. The majority seem to be aluminum wound now. It would be understandable that they would cut corners with cheap consumer grade goods made in China, but aluminum wound motors are showing up in more demanding higher end applications as well now. They don't last. I see em' landing on the metals recycling pile every day now.
Kinda interesting with the video at about 48 minutes in. They claim that the plane was back in the air two days after the crash at Gimli. Further .... they claim that the same plane is still in service 25 years later. Make of it what you will i suppose.
