New to me, 1.5 HP Enterprise Meat Grinder

Go green the man behind the curtain said.

There's money to be made, too make up for the shortage of profits made from e-waste as available stock dwindles I've added tallow, bone meal and dog food.

    Yea butcher scraps.

Anyhow this is the new grinder recently purchased, Enterprise 1.5 horse power with a #32 head. The secret to rendering is to first grind the fat.

The grinder is located in Gimli Manitoba which brings to mind this documentary based on a true story when an Air Canada plane makes an emergency landing on an old airport which has become a race track. The pilot pulls off an incredible act of bravery.

Well ... here we are on the first day of 2024. There sure have been a lot of changes over the years. Ewaste is still around but it's not like it was ten years ago. I made some structural changes at work recently. Consolidated the ewaste in with all of the other universal waste items like rechargeable batteries and fluorescent bulbs into the same storage area. There are so few TV's and computers coming in that there's no need for them to have their own building now.

Any idea how old the meat grinder is ? It almost looks like it's got the whole art deco thing going on with the base. It's amazing when you think about it. You wouldn't expect a starting capacitor to last much more than 20 years. The only insulation on the motor winding wires is varnish. You would think it would degrade over time. Still ... those old motors just keep running and running. It's not like the electric motors they build these days. The majority seem to be aluminum wound now. It would be understandable that they would cut corners with cheap consumer grade goods made in China, but aluminum wound motors are showing up in more demanding higher end applications as well now. They don't last. I see em' landing on the metals recycling pile every day now.

Kinda interesting with the video at about 48 minutes in. They claim that the plane was back in the air two days after the crash at Gimli. Further .... they claim that the same plane is still in service 25 years later. Make of it what you will i suppose.

Meat grinder 200 pounds sitting on the bottom of my Jetta trunk, not sure how I'll get it out. Might need to borrow and engine lift.

From research the Enterprise meat grinder most likely last made 1956 when the company was purchased by Silex which was later purchased by Proctor to become Proctor Silex.

Purchased this self contained steam kettle today, it's propane fired, holds 40 gallons and does not require further additions of water. Water in the jacket is heated and pressurized to 30 psi. There's a pressure relief valve should the pressure exceed the safe limit.

When i had purchased the Groen steam kettle I was aware it had issues, I finally got the bugs worked out. Fired for the first time this evening.

Beef fat pick up tomorrow, now I'll see if it was money well spent.

Liquid Gold., tallow is worth many times that of copper per pound and it's less work to process the bones turned into ash have even more value then I have the pet food that I give to friends and neighbours.

When your horse dies, I'll render it and turn it into pet food. The hoofs make excellent glue, used for chipping glass.

Ground beef a byproduct from rendering the fat into tallow, distributed as pet food to friends and neighbours.
