I was sitting there reading something this morning that said
scrap metal demand was down. I got to thinking, it's hot and I don't feel like unloading the truck, then loading with scrap. But, I sure don't care to get caught with all this stuff if prices should fall a bit. So, I decided to load the Ranger up instead, with as much of my non-ferrous stuff as I could get in there. I still spent a couple hours on it, but I figured it would be a pretty good payday. A big chunk would come from the copper/aluminum reefers.
I called ahead and got prices. They seemed a little low on a couple things. But you can go in and get out of the place pretty fast. I get there and the guy quickly tells me they couldn't take the reefer coils from the outside unit, but could take the ones from the window units. Orange county rule. It has to have paperwork for them to take it. I sure wish they had mentioned this on the phone when I called
Of course what he called window unit reefer coils were from the inside air handlers from the same houses that the outside coils were from. I wasn't going to mention it, I didn't want to haul any more stuff back home
On top of that, they would not take the 2" brass backflow preventer either. That's a chunk of brass. If they would have taken this stuff, I would have been well over 600 bucks in the back of a Ranger. And it wasn't even that packed. Instead I left with a bit under $400.
