    Does It Become Habit?

Hello fellow scrappers. I have noticed I have formed a new habit. When riding in a vehicle I keep my eye out on peoples trash, big blue construction dumpsters. Example today when riding with my father in law, we passed a blue construction dumpster and he looked at me and I said no just a big fat long tree trunk dad.
Does this become a new habit for scrap metalist?

Can't speak for everyone, but I would say yes it does! I usually don't have the room in my car or the space at home to pick things from the trash, but for some odd reason I still check out all the trash cans when I ride by em :-)

Indeed it does. For instance, I have a knack for spotting pop cans from a long distance, in weeds, mostly covered in dirt. haha

Amen to that. I would say more of a straight up full blown ADDICTION then a habit.

One of those support groups comes to mind

"Hi, my name is _____, and I'm a scrapper"

    "Hi ______"
There's nothing more fun and more effective than hitting something repeatedly with a sledgehammer

I've almost run into ditches eyeballing garbage and looking down streets when it isn't even garbage day its so ingrained in my brain. Even my parents say they hate me for this because they do the same thing, can't go anywhere without looking for scrap for me!

When I first started doing this, I had to really pay attention or I would miss stuff. My friend Brian would say, "dude, you just missed some copper." I always wondered how he spotted it. After doing it for a while, you start to catch everything. I can spot a grill at several hundred yards I wonder how I ever missed that stuff before.

I often feel like the terminator searching for John Conner. Scanning... Scanning... Scanning...

On those long straight roads, I get the 1000-yard scrapper stare. I get worried when I spot something so far out...someone could possibly beat me to it

I do believe obsession is probably a more appropriate term.

Can't drive without looking down alleys. If I can I just drive down alleys to get where I am going!

When I'm driving my eyes dart around like a meth head looking for cops. Always driving under the speed limit through town so I don't miss anything that might be down the other roads and alleys. I would say it's a habit, an obsession, and yes even an addiction. Anybody else would be the same way if they thought there might be money laying around everywhere.

It is a habit for me, I can pick out a piece of scrap or something that is sitting at the other end of the street. I have had times when I saw something, drove around the block with my wife asking what I was doing and drive right up to a nice AC or something like that. Most people look at the scenery, I look for scrap. LOL
