Got a call today...

Guy asked if I would travel to a town that's about 2 hours from me. I said possibly, then asked what he had.

2 D9 Cats

A Bronco

and..."a bunch of metal".

I asked what he thought the Cats weighed. He tells me about 9,000, but one is complete, the other is for parts. The weight seemed light from what little I knew about Cat dozers.



I asked how much he wanted for it.

He asked what I'd give for it.

I prefer people throw their number first, but he wouldn't. Went round and round for a bit. Then I said I would have to figure up some numbers and get back to him.

Later I looked up D9 specs, and just as I thought, there is no way I can move this equipment - just too massive. 100,000 plus lbs.* Far too heavy for any trucks and trailers I have access to.

I am thinking about maybe brokering a deal with him where I list it online, and we split the proceeds. Not sure if he would go for that. He wouldn't give me a location until I gave him a price. I didn't think to ask for pics. That would have helped.

One machine was running when he parked it, and the other is being cannibalized from what I understood, but that it could be a running machine again.

At bare minimum I am thinking a lowboy, but I don't know if the running machine will push the dead machine onto a lowboy.

Any other thoughts/suggestions?

I hate telling people I can't help them out, but this very well could be bigger than I can handle.

Closest yard is 1 1/2 hours out. Could still be feasible. Sounds like there is a lot of weight here.

However, I am thinking a yard would have trouble picking up a Cat, unless they have a lowboy and I am not aware of any yards around here that does.

If you could get the one running you would probably make out like a bandit. I would do a little research on equipment auction sites and find out what a non-running D9 sells for, I'm sure you could get more than scrap price for it. Parts for a Cat Dozer are expensive.

That's what I was thinking by brokering it. List it with IronPlanet, Ritchie Bros or some other heavy equipment site.

I'll sleep on it and call the guy tomorrow.

Space wouldn't be an issue. I have a piece of land I would store them on. It's the lack of cash to buy them, plus transport fees.
