I need a boat to go to the scrap yard!!

I am in Binghamton NY. I have never in my life seen flooding in this area like we had the last couple of days. I was fortunate that I had no loss, but I had to have 3 sump pumps running in my basement to keep it at bay.

Right now, there is only one bridge open going over the Susquehanna river all the others are closed. ( Can't even get to the scrap yards if I wanted too).

These poor people in this area are in for some rough going. We recovered from a flood in 2006 but this one is much worse. The whole city was practically underwater.

I am retired contractor that has been having fun scrapping and have really enjoyed the simplicity of it. But it looks like I may have to put my tool belt back on to help these people out and put this city back together. I won't be able to concentrate on scrapping as much but maybe some scrapping will come my way in the process who knows!!

You can scrap and at the same time, put the city back together.

We are in the same neck of the woods........I'm about 60 minutes from you, and thankfully didn't have any flooding issues, but I go to Binghamton often and have many friends there. My heart goes out to you guys, and I plan on doing anything I can to help too! I've never seen anything like this flooding in my life!

metalworks55, I'm glad you were prepared with the sump pumps and I'm very sad about your friends and neighbors who've lot their homes. Keep us posted and you will all be in my thoughts and prayers.

my yard has been down for 3 days because its in a low spot in its town. ive been annoying the hell out of them calling every morning and every night to see when i can take these loads in. i feel you, bro. its all we can do to keep people alive and in tact when things are falling apart. keep up the good work!

Im in Northeastern Pa and we are having major flooding here also. We have had record flooding.

Over the bridge in NJ we had right around 7 inches. I know Harrisburg got just shy of 14". You okay up there CM?

I am personally OK, I live on a hill away from the water, but there is major flooding in my town and neighboring towns. I have already had calls for appliance removal and the houses aren't out of the water yet. This is going to be a busy next few weeks.

I'm from the Johnson City area (right next to Binghamton for those who don't know the area). Trust me, it's just as bad here.

Thankfully I live on a hill and didn't need to worry about flooding except for some minor stuff in my garage, but even at the bottom of the hill a stream overflowed and went right through a neighborhood. To put everything into perspective: That road has 2 main parts: upper and lower.(It's not actually called that) The lower is anything below one of the main roads in the town. The bottom of the upper section was the neighborhood that had a stream overflow into it. The fifth picture is of the lower part, about 75 feet in from the main road. About half a mile back, the Susquehanna River is overflowing into that whole part of town.

The first picture was taken from the railroad track that runs through the area. It's pretty much the only way to get anywhere close to the area. Imagine that house underwater times about 200 and you can picture the neighborhood.

The second picture is of a car in the affected area

The third picture is of a park. There's about 6-10 ft of water in there.

The fourth picture is another from the affected area taken from the railroad tracks.

All these pictures were taken yesterday, and the water has gone down a few feet in the park area. The bad part is, the water hasn't gone down at all in the other neighborhood. If anything, it's come up even further. I'll try to keep everyone updated

The river here is receding at a rate of 6" per hour. Our bridge in town is finally open and people are starting their clean up. The people who where evacuated are expected to return to their homes later tonight or tomorrow morning. The worst is yet to come. The stench is horrible.

As i also live near , NY better do some thing , As of 2004 the saying was "the once in a 100 year flood " then came 2006 now 2011 X 2 , from what i see this can can happen as often or if tropical storms happen down south. Once a storm stalls in Virgina over the VA Susquehanna, that's the first sign of a problem , as the Susquehanna in NY starts to fill like a bath tub. We need the fed $$ to dredge the rivers & creeks .
