70 pound battery backup!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I stopped at a thrift store on the way back from the flea market today and picked up 3 heavy duty battery backup systems for $6. Looked inside one and 2 big transformers, one smaller one about fist sized as well as a bunch of small copper windings, some aluminum heat sinks and a bunch of 14 awg solid core wire. Also, a 25 pound lead acid battery pack and looks like some brass pieces in there as well.



Already checked, they are worthless and the batteries don't hold a charge, so going to break them down monday. By my horribly inaccurate estimations i think i'll get maybe like $10-$12 each out of them.

So after breaking down the 3 UPS's this is what I ended up with

65 lbs batteries @$0.13/lb = $8.45
102 lbs sheet iron @$0.115/lb = $11.73
10 lbs #2 copper @$2.77/lb = $27.70

A couple hours work turned my $6 investment into $48. Plus, I still have a couple pounds of little copper windings, some brass and aluminum heatsinks and some insulated wire I haven't brought in yet. Also have 3 boards with gold plated pins in a couple places and a few chips on them that may or may not be worth something.

Will be keeping an eye out for these in the future, 800% profit is pretty sweet.

Man my yard pays $.30 cents for batteries. You might want to do some shopping around for better prices.

Sadly, that's the best price around here. Everywhere else is only paying $0.10.

yeah its 27 cents here .the biggest single ups battery I have ever found was 117 lbs

Do you have to discharge UPS after testing if it works also for dismantling or not? Like its needed for CRT/TV's.
