First time out, one load $18

    Hello,
So my first time out I found some steel gates that are used to go in-between concrete blocks on the side of someone's house. I asked them if I could remove it for them, and they didn't care.

So I was going to collect more stuff, but I had to take my girlfriend to the Doctor so I just ended up taking about 7 pieces of that gate to the scrap yard, they were probably 30lbs each, and filled up my truck (Short bed S-10) So for about 5 mins of work I made a good $18 not too bad, Wish I had a trailer, but my truck doesn't have a tow hitch... Anyways what are the best things to collect that would bring me in money?

everything... read this forum... study the threads, and the next time you're at the yard, ask for a list of accepted items. you'll understand very quickly what is worth your time and where to collect stuff. the average prices will make sense to you soon too, but you can get a good idea once you start to read some more. Happy scrappin

also, you should post on the introduce yourself thread just for good measure.

And so it starts. Congratulations on your first load. Pretty soon, you'll be shooting for $180 a load.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Thanks, yeah I've been reading as much as I can, I have a knowledge of types of metal, and stuff like that, but have never been to a scrap yard in my life (other then yesterday), and it was pretty fast, and painless. I posted in the "Introduce yourself topic" Didn't see it at first thanks for the tip.

copper is (or was depending on price deflation by you) the most valuable "common" metal. Its around $3 a pound.
