Been too busy to post! Still going 'out', bought my 1st load :)

    Hiya peeps!

I have been having so much fun going out I haven't been in office much. I am finding most of my stuff from places I have stopped in, Freecycle and Craigslist.

Since I posted last, I bought my first load from repair shop I visited...and I got REALLY dirty!!!!!

I paid $250 and I filled up back of PU and some of trailer with:
    6 cat conv.
    4 radiators
    3 engines
a ton of scrap metal (rotors/brake pads, misc.)

After scrapping and selling I collected in total $ 1,019.39 - $250pd = $769.39 profit (less gas/time). It took me a couple of days to separate and sell/scrap.

The same shop will call me when they collect enuff for next load. I think I did OK with that one. ??

Otherwise, doing same apt routes, jumping on posts on sites mentioned, I think we are doing good...making $$ everyday and having fun doing so.

I STILL have sooooo much to learn!

Perhaps you don't have that much more to learn. It sounds like you had a great trip. By the way do you think the "girl" things helps or hurts?? Also where was the big money the used engines?? Best of luck, Mike.

Actually, most of the $$ came from the scrap metal. We separated it all and that brought more $$. Yes, being a girl helps, I believe.

Cheap! I sometimes wonder if my wife would get better prices if I sent her in to the small scales, but I doubt I'll ever find that out for sure.

Do you have a break down on price/lbs of the stuff you took in? I am esp interested in what the cats brought.

Granted I don't pay for stuff, but to make over $1,000 on the deal, I say you did good. Granted 700 only profit, but still good.

I hope you didn't sell the cats to the scrap yard. never never never, do that, there are cat buyers every where, they alone could have easily been worth the $700. do a search in the archives on catolytic converters.

    Good job

I think my lack of knowledge hurt me on the cats to be honest..I thought I would have gotten more...these are my notes after getting some explanation from bf: (to be honest, I have no clue what they mean, LMAO!)
    1- $60 - Ford Cat
    2-$33 - Pre Cat
    3- $15 - 1/2 Cat
    4, 5, 6 were after mkt - $8 each= $24
    6 cats + 4 rads I got $147 at one yard.

The motors-- I scrapped the cast 1, 1 sold for $90 and 1 for $75.
The rest was various metals (tin, aluminum cast, iron-aluminum, MLC Aluminum, Stainless Steel), Electric Motors, AC Compressors, Alternators, Batteries.

    Had some wire.

Please remember, I am a total newb at this. For those who haven't read my intro thread, it explains why I am 'out' scrapping. Intro here.
My bf helped me break everything down and selling the engines. I am still learning all the differences in the metals. Seemed the tin brought us in the most by the receipts.

I did, I did. Such a newb. I need to learn more about this. I got calls for 3 more to pick up and I am not familiar with them. Going to print out the thread you recommended and learn this. Seems bf doesn't know much about this area either, hence..why I am TAKING OVA! . He didn't say anything when I told him I sold them to Direct Metals.

Be VERY careful buying cats. You can lose a lot of money very quickly.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Yea, I think I need to learn more. He tried to sell them to me in addition to the load, but I said no...I wanted them included in price I offered..he gave in. I wouldn't have taken them otherwise..I just don't know enough yet to be purchasing, honestly. I only did this because of the size, I was sure I would at least make my $$ back on the whole lot. Thanks a heap for the advice. Studying cat info on forum now. This site and members ROCK!

Here, this might help shed some light on where the money is "CAT" wise,,,

OR try this one; it has pictures so you can do a comparison. Might be able to print off the pics and put them in a ring binder to take with you, so you know what's what.
