Police say residents burning copper wire in backyard could face charges

    Nov, 4 2011

    FALL RIVER —
A fire outside of a six-family dwelling Friday afternoon resulted in no damage to the building, but the residents who started the blaze may face some legal trouble.
According to District Chief Roger St. Martin, one of the tenants at 299 Mulberry St. was burning copper wires in a metal barrel in the backyard when heavy smoke enveloped the area. It is believed they were attempting to burn the jacket off of the wiring and sell the copper as scrap metal.

Fire crews responded shortly after 3 p.m. and the blaze was extinguished in a matter of minutes. There was no interior damage as a result of the fire and residents were able to return to their apartments in less than a half hour.

St. Martin said it is illegal to conduct open burning in Fall River. He was not sure if the resident would face charges or be subject to a fine for violating the city’s ordinance code.

He was thinking. **** there has to be an easier way then stripping all this wire than with my pocket knife. Look what I have here. A big metal drum and some gasoline. Look at all the pretty black smoke.

Things can get even worse than that.

I know right...Burn it at night...The smoke blends in with the darkness.

Did you notice that they said nothing about burning the wire, they said its against the law for open burning. Wont be charged for burning toxic materials, they will be fined for violating the city's ordinance code for open burning.

    That's kinds funny.

You also can't count on the paper having all the details correct.

Nor my posts, apparently. WHO catches them, not "you" catches them.
