    first scrap/noobie

well i have been working on a couple things and have gathered 30 55 gallon barrels, two washers, an oven, an old pontiac station wagon, a bunch of catalytic converters, couple bikes and some odds and ends. was planning on tearing apart the appliances and getting as much copper as i can. was also wondering what you guys have been getting a ton in your city, here in SD were getting about 200 a ton

Are you going to haul it in all together? What are you getting $200 a ton for - Cars? Light Iron? Are you selling the convertors to the scrap yard? If so, you're losing money.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

You'd also be losing money on the alternators, starters, and batteries. Welcome to the forum. All your questions can be answered here for sure!
Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing.

You might want to hold off till you read on here how to tear stuff down to maximize income for what you've got. For instance, sell the cats to a buyer on here for twice what the scrap yard pays.

I am glad to see you came here first, before we see a story of "I took some cats in and only got 5 bucks each" or whatever.

    Welcome aboard.
