Get one with a 'over center' locking guard, no extra tools to need or loose that way.

The most important fact to know, is that no matter what you are doing, if you let go of it, it should pull away from you.
Leaving you clear of the grinder. Allways.

I set the guard at about 20 degrees clockwise of it being square off the grinders centreline.
Then I let the far away edge of the guard touch the job, then move the grinder around till the disc touches the job, & then grind like that, not always with the guard touching, but close.

When you put it down, make sure the disc doesn't hit the ground first, they don't like sideways pressure & that'll make then crack & then when you start it up, the disc disintegrates..
That'l get you really really hurt. Grinder cuts take ages to heal & never heal up good.

Always unplug the grinder when you go to change the disc, I tuck it into my armpit as once someone picked up the plug thinking it was for somethings else & plugged it in...

Make sure the screws around the head are tight all of the time, between that & having a hot spark short out some windings, nothing else goes wrong with them.
Discs & brushes are replacement items.

    More soonish...
Wow. thanks Eesakiwi for all that detailed information. It's very good to know.
Success consists of going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm...... Churchill

I've spent plenty of time on other forums (motorcycles), the thing I like about this one is it puts money in your pocket instead of taking it out and the camaraderie is second to none.

I too have learned more than I ever thought I would from this forum. I look back on the last year of scrapping, when I thought I was pro at it, and I realize that I was SUCH a noob. I made so many mistakes. Three days of reading random threads has doubled or tippled my knowledge, and that isn't even everything I can or will learn yet. I am experienced, for sure, but there will always be more to learn, and this forum well help a ton with that!
Yeah that's great and all...but...CAN I SCRAP IT!?

I always learn something new here too, especially when it comes to the value of things. I never knew what somethings could be worth and I hate to think of all the things I scrapped that could have been worth way more.

I love the way everyone gets along, one of the forums I go to it's like walking into a cat fight most of the time so I never even bother to post there. Also want to say thanks to Admin, Andrew, Mick and parrothead for the great job you guys do!

As i learned the fastest way to dissemble it is a good feeling . I use a 4# sledge allot but till i finally decide to use a 4# I will have taken apart many items first by hand . Once you see how it is built then future demo is easy as you know what to hit.

My only worry is I hope the info we spew is not going to be used against us one day.excessive untrue bragging should be avoided .

I very much feel that this line of work has so much juice revolves around on hard fact about the state of the world...Every year there are more people and fewer resources. We are on the leading edge of a huge wave of societal change and we all know it!! This site is by far the best organized and moderated.

Ours are not arguments, they are just a difference of opinion because we are all independent people.
