    Yea or Nay

    As i have taken apart things , I see it's time to decide.
    See often I'll have brass and I decide to sell it as dirty brass as i just don't have the time to clean it . Some times one says I just don't want to play with this valve for 45 min. to make .70 extra.
    I've sold off AL as mix .09, cause I can't sit with the item for 1 hr for $2.50 extra .
    Now Dirty copper hmm. AKA Copper Bearing items, My first experience with CB was bad as I was new to the game and struggling with a large transformer, must of been a 3 lb plus copper transformer not to mention the short . I gave up, - metal naivety - and figured the yard man would take it as a motor, instead he said Copper Bearing sounded ok by me . till i saw all i got was .25 lb. so i stayed away from CB from that point.
    I now see CB as a potential high payer as now i see the ratio to copper on an item like steel , AL , can be low . sure the yard would like to see 50/50 but i see they go less.

    Listed below are a few of the items i feel are best sold as CB
    1) Tiny transformer found on boards
    2) Circuit beakers
    3) any sorta board component with small amt copper
    4) tiny motors from microwaves (glass spinner) and any other tiny

    Yea = Take apart

    Nay = Put to CB

    Obvious as to, is it worth sitting in one spot for that ever so small amt copper, sure it will add up but - CB might pay more due to good weight on the steel that copper is hooked to.

    I know it's not cost effective for me to take that stuff apart.

    I'm with oldude on this except for tiny motors...that little plate spinner motor has a big handful of light copper though.

    I break all of mine down, eventually. Things have been a little slower lately so I've been breaking down all the little stuff I laid aside this year.

    I break those little plate spinners down, but I do a bunch at a time, around 25 grams ~ 25 cents each.

    It all adds up, my theory is 'Ok it takes time & returns a little, but it may be that 150 grams thats needed to put the scale up over the next 1 Kg'
    That way I end up with a whole NZ$7 extra.

    In practice? My scales are more accurate than that.... and sometimes I just keep doing it till I have a few Kgs of it & add that to my total tally. $7~ $14 ~ $21....extra$$
    If I do that on all my metal, I'm sure its working out to be 20% of the $$ I get in the hand.

    Its normally very pretty bright multi coloured fine wire, must be my Aspergers but I love how it looks.
    Reminds me a being a kid & that Ali foil on Easter eggs & Christmas decorations.

    What i am going to see is if there is a edge point that the weight of the steel and a small amt of copper showing will allow for a higher pay out in the creation of 100 lb of copper bearing =$250 .

    Anything that can be broken down further gets set aside for the most part with me. If I need some cash and am running to the yard, I may throw it in the load. There are many times I am in the garage and looking for something to do to kill some time and I will attack that pile. It is all relevant as to how i feel at the time.
