    A-hole scrapper in my town

I need to vent and get a little advice. Every week is bulk trash in some part of my town, The past 2 I have run into a husband and wife team that is tearing things up leaving a mess not to mention I stopped to pick up a grill no one in sight by the time I got out of my truck they had pulled up behind me jumped out and tossed the grill in there truck and were pulling away. Its wrong on so many levels. first the mess they make is gonna get the cops involved and no one will be able to scrap and why the h... do they need to be so disrespectful. I was gonna leave them a note on my pile this week but this may just cause me greif. What to do?

Police have a hard time , So how do you think you can do better. Let time take it's coarse
but for the record go to police to let them know what you do and what your not doing (not the one making a mess)

When there's a lot of competition you need to be smarter than them. If they go out in the morning, go out the night before. Figure out their route and beat them to it.

I usually scrap around 10-12 at night. 2 weeks ago I thought I would try going out at dawn for better visibility. Between other scrappers and the garbage men, it wasn't worth my time. Now I'm back to filling the truck while the other scrappers are sound asleep.

When you see them again, get their license plate number and keep it in your glove box. This way, if you ever get stopped by the police because someone is making a mess and they are checking you out, you will have a direction to send them.

    Setup a trap for them.

Place a garbage can not at the road but close to it, still in your yard and place some metal next to it.

Now wait for them to see said can. Because the can is not at the curb it is trespassing and theft. Report them to the police. Enjoy the free day of scrapping.

I just wrote about this very same subject matter lastnight. It's so unfortunate when that happens not to mention incredibly frustrating for those who are respectful of property owners & other scrappers that are careful and make sure they dont make a mess. It's rapidly becoming a huge problem all over the country.

Good luck, and dont let the bad apples get you down.

I have a similar problem with one of my 'spots'. I do all the cleaning & sorting & people dump TV's there when I have gone.

If I wasn't there, there'd be the same people stealing steel, I get 3 'poachers' to every legit dumper now.

I have a TV dumpers cars # plate & the Police have checked me out, so I'm OK there.
Next time I see the Police I will talk with them about the problem, same with the guy who owns the dump spot.
I will get a proper business card off him, I have done that with another dumpster owner & that seems to work well.

Short of actual physical force theres not much I can do except take cars # plates & offer suggestions.

Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing.

Man, not for nothing but what are we talking about here... Not that it's any excuse but what calibur of people do you expect to run along side of while your scrapping through garbage.

"Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon"-c'mon it is what it is, maybe your scrap yards look different than mine, but I close my windows and lock my doors when I go use the scale....

If you have a video camera, tape them, place it on Youtube and send a link to the local media and police department. Make sure to get their faces, vehicle license plate, etc.

I know it sounds harsh, but you gotta at least understand where I'm coming from...there's plainclothes detectives at the yard at least once a week checking the id's of the people that are there.

HAHA no I'm not upset, I say that to everybody....... I'm usually just kidding. I tell my grandma to do that to people to. It's only gotten me in trouble once when I told my 6 year old to punch any boys that want to be her boyfriend and the next day she comes running in "Daddy I punched Dalton just like you said! Right in the nose!" Oh crap....... we had a long talk about daddy's behavior that night!

It was a dark day to be a daddy......... I still laughed though. My wife often shakes her head and wonders aloud "What are they going to be like when they are older.......... I'm scared." haha

As long as they have 2 parents to guide them then they'll do fine.

Thanks for all the great and funny advice. I'd love to do a little face rearranging but my anger is gone laughter is such great medicine. I will however get there plate # because there is a new development with these a holes. My husband works for a electric supply store and all the electricians in the area are pissed off because some one is stelling there wire from job sites at nite around here. I'll pass the plate # and discription of the truck on to them and if its them wala I just made some good friends. I'm going out today to kick some a hole butts. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again
