Full Tim or Part Time Scrapper??

I have been wondering for some time, and from reading post I have fig. out most of the people that are Full time vs part time. But thought I would bring up the question anyway. How many scrap/recycle, as there only source of income and how many use scrapping as supplemental. How did you get started? Anyone doing so well that you will be making this your full time job in the near future?

I for one, have a full time job and just do this so that my wife can stay at home for the kids. But I do feel with the proper knowledge and willingness to work hard. You can do very well.

I am just part time at it, but there are several on here that rely solely on scrapping as an income.

I am full time and have been for 25 years!.Born and raised in it..quit school after 8th grade..wife works part time in mall but that just pays for her clothing habit lol

Our wife's must have join the same club!

I am Both PT & FT but would rather be more supplemental. All depends on goals i feel a supplemental of $200 per week possible,full time could be way more depending on whats coming in, if your lax you might not have some good weeks.

I am full time but only work part time hours and make killer money!Some weeks well most weeks.

Seeing how things are put to together is huge for learning . When i first started i assumed like - wow thats what is in a coffee maker SS Copper AL then I started to see Some other Coffee makers are cheaply made . TV'S are interesting I'll find 2 large TV's and your average person will figure it's all the same - NOPE - one TV has lots of value other skimpy value. I wonder if that made a difference in picture quality. Some fridges have lots copper ,and others use more AL and steel pipeline.
One thing i see some companies have integrity with there construction. Not sure if it completely matters as what i take apart are old models. But Ill tell you this If i really had to I can fix many appliances if i wanted as i see many appliances do share parts

Part time with me, I wish I could go full time but things are changing for me soon. I am moving back to the old country for a bit, the old country being the UK. I live in the USA right now. I love scrapping, it is just so much fun. And I really enjoy the "Hunt" element. I just hope I can make a go of it back in the UK.

PT for me. Full time gig pays the bills, scrapping supplements my vices........although scrapping has become a vice

I getta benifit of NZ$200 (US$150) per week) & after expenses that leaves $NZ$70 for all food & entertainment.
I don't have a vehicle & don't drug (inc ethanol) either.
So I scrap for spending money & possible investments & 'gifts' (I make stuff, that only I can, for people).

Since its all on foot, I average NZ$50 pw, thats under the amount I can get without being 'gouged back'.
It keeps me in the business & I see a lot of what I do as purely recycling, recycling metal & recycling $.

I finda Kg Cu, I getta $, they getta $, he getsa $, he gets one too, they getsa $ or two $$ & we all getta $$,
Then we export it for $$$.

I started scrapping part time at the end of 2009 when my regular job went south (literally!) I still scrap part time. I'd love to do it full time, but there's just too many people around here doing it and it's tough to find the stuff. Between this and ebay it pays the bills.

I used to scrap quite a bit in the 90's too but this was when I'd take in a load of sheet metal and hear "We don't pay anything for it, but you're welcome to drop it off!"

As for tearing things down, I've been doing that since I was about 5 or 6 years old.

full time without full time hours. was part time till about a year ago when injuries forced me out of my job. Since then computer recycling "asset recovery" has provided very decent income to support a family of 7. We are currently tossng around the idea of a computer surplus store to help sell the large volume of better equipment we get in.
