    I was someones motherload....

I don't know if I should be pissed...or not lol

long story short...someone robbed my dumpster of metal...now here is the thing...I had no signs up or anything so they MAY of thought it was free for the taking as they only took the good metal not knowing they where robbing me.

or...they knew what they where doing and just flat out robbed me.

Don't know what one it is...but if it was for drugs or some other bad habit...it would tick me off...if it was for food..it would not bother me as much...they only got away with 2 or 3 tons worth of steel that was in the roll off.

All I know is I just posted signs like crazy and the cops are going to keep a very strong eye on it for the next few days with our office being closed.

Soooo for anyone who lives in the Dallas Texas....do not take anything from the dumpster that's on 720 in little elm....

Sorry to hear of the loss, Just and idea wire up some good night vision or LED camera's. Have the recording at home or somewhere away from the office just in case they do break in they can't grab the recorder or cd's. That would either cut down on intruders or save you and the police a lot of work. I could imagine there aren't many yards down there like there is here to check.

Things happen...I hope someone made a honest mistake and will not repeat it once they see the signs.

nobody takes 2-3 tons of metal out of a dumpster without knowing they are doing something wrong. Especially if that dumpster had only metal in it.

In my prime it would have taken my an hour and a half to hand bomb 3 tons of loose scrap metal. And the thief surly did not haul that off in one load on a 3/4 ton truck, had to be a 1 ton with stake sides or something a bit more obvious a tandem axle trailer with sides.

Maybe the guy had a big truck with one of them self loaders and a magnet, that would be reasonably quick.

For my money I would go with Private Security, at least you would have the right to call out the trip and time logs for the guys patrolling your beat from the dispatcher if you did have a theft or break in.

Try and get a copy of the night report from your local law enforcement to show where their guys and gals were.

Containers with only metal , we all know thats not up for grabs . I think who ever did it was equipped & not that broke since he needs some kind of good truck to handle 6000#
Probably worked with someone one guy in dumpster one guy loads. Looking at $750 or there abouts. Also an experienced scraper since he knew what to take. I'd say if you know what type of scrap you had, visit the yards see if you can match it up before any Leeds get cold

I am surprised that your metal storage is not fenced in. Around these parts you would need a fence topped off with razor wire, and a couple yard dogs for good measure.

Technically speaking the scrap yard got robbed. Once you put scrap inside a container that scrap is no longer yours and belongs to the scrap yard. Anything inside the container is property of whoever owns the scrap container. I know this because I went to an auction once and was going to bid on a container of scrap 304 stainless. Turns out it was already loaded in scrap yard I was doing contracting for at the time container. I called the head of sales at the yard and he sent over a salesman to inform the auction company that the container isn't going to be auctioned off and won't be included in the sale or the cops would be called. Long story short all the scrappers went home empty handed and the yard immediately came over and picked up the container so the bank could get paid. Ask your yard if they have covers for there containers wether its a lugger or 20 yarder or bigger. If they don't you might want to spend some money and make a cover that a towmotor can lift on and off. Just a thought and sorry you got robbed

I get what your saying PSP, but since the container has not been picked up and weighed in, I doubt there just going to give Easy what he estimates it to be. My guess is they tell him it's his problem/loss until they have possession.

I know its his problem and you know the yard would laugh at you if you told them material was stolen out of there container and they owed you for it. I do wonder if you could get something put on your insurance certificate to guard against theft and something like this happening. The problem would be proving theft though.

I have someone who lives close by to keep an eye on it...he has a few...toys handy if needed.

I all so have been making friends with the local police (talking to them at the coffee shop and donuts shop goes a long way) and they said they will drive by every now and then to check up on it (so far the pulled over my worker when he was working there late one night and was tossing some metal into the bin...that was a funny phone call)

so...with all of that...lets hope nothing else grows legs and walks away.

Easy have you gone to best buy and checked into the cameras they have that are motion activated and run off wifi at all just a question? Anything to keep the thieves away and making friends with the cops is the best thing you can as a recycler.

i feel your pain 4 months ago we got robed this two homeless boys stole all our gas tools and the radio that we had the broke into all three of our storage trailers and took only the good stuff like copper and brass along with the tools they where nice to leave lots of evidence so it did not take the cops very long to find the ones that stole the stuff from me but they no longer had the tools or anything so now I have to wait until they get out of jail and see if i get paid like the judge said they had to do.

Insurance company probably won't insure due to it not being a secure facility.
